Chromecast Ultra running Youtube TV freezes or shuts down TV

I am having problems with my Chromecast Ultra running Youtube TV on a recent LG TV.  At times the TV shuts down or the picture freezes and I have to reboot the TV.  I unplug the Chromecast and that resolves the problem but it is very annoying.  What should I do to rectify this issue?

Hey there wmartinf,

I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast is having some freezing issues! I can imagine that makes for a terrible viewing experience, so I'd be happy to help out. Let me just ask a few questions to narrow down the problem:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • Does this only occur when casting YouTube TV?
  • Does this issue occur when using a different HDMI port?
  • What color is the LED light on the Chromecast when this happens?

We can try a few things depending on the color of the LED light on the Chromecast. I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Started 3 weeks ago. Yes, only with Chromecast ultra. I have switched ports and problem remains.  Color of light is always white.

Hiya wmartinf,

Thank you for responding! It's interesting that this issue only occurs with the YouTube TV app. I would first try clearing out the cached app data on the YouTube TV app. If that doesn't work, then try uninstalling and re-installing the app. Finally, see if you can cast the app from another device, such as a different phone or tablet, to see if the problem persists.

Let me know how that goes!

How do I clear out the cached app data on the You Tube TV App??

Hiya wmartinf,

If the app is installed on your LG TV, you can look up online something like "LG TV Clear App Cache", and you should find information on how to do so.

I hope this helps!

Jeran
