Chromecast and nest mini

I have Chromecast with Google TV and nest mini 2nd gen, which can turn the TV on and off, but it can't play anything when I ask, it doesn't even reply anything, just ignores request. How can I fix it?

Either or would be fine, shouldn't make a difference to the engineering team!

Thank you,

Jeran

Hey there Anastasiya,

I'm real sorry about the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that assistant issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • What version of Google Home are you using?
  • Do your other Assistant devices work correctly, like the one on the Chromecast Voice Remote?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Yes, Hi, it has not been resolved. The issue started straight away, I've only had Chromecast for a couple of months, and the nest mini is brand new. I don't have any other devices connected at the moment.

I'm sorry to hear that! Just out of curiosity, what content are you asking the Nest Mini to play on the Chromecast? I know some apps play with the assistant, but require linking an account, check out this list to see if you need to link any accounts to your Google Account first. When it comes to the Google Assistant, sometimes there is a little prep-work when it comes to third-part applications.

Prime video doesn't appear to be on the list, which is a shame, but Disney+ is, it's linked. If I ask to play the next episode of 24 for example, it will turn the TV on, but won't even find the show, let alone play...

That is interesting, does the Assistant load the app, then play the show when the TV is already powered on?

No.

Would you be willing to try using the Assistant app on your Android device? That way, we can narrow down if it's the Assistant on the Nest Mini having the issue, or if it's the Assistant or TV in general.

I didn't think the assistant app could control the TV, but I'll try.

Yeah, the assistant on my Pixel also couldn't do it, and the mini doesn't even bother to at least try to turn the TV on anymore...

That's no good, there may be something going on with the assistant... Would you be able to re-create the issue, then submit feedback via the Google Home app with logs enabled? That way the issue can be passed to the engineering team, so they can take a look into it.

On which device? The mini or the Chromecast?

Hey there!

We came to a resolution, sadly not a fix however, but for now, I'm locking the thread. As always, feel free to make a new thread if you have any more questions or concerns.

Have a good one!

Best regards,
Jeran
