Chromecast audio in group??

Have a generation 2, maybe 3. Its the flat white chromecast with the remote. works perfect as standalone. Can match movies from it, or by casting. Can send Audio such as from YourTube Music. When I go to Home app, create a group, select the chromecast device with other chromecast supported speakers it won't play. Only acts up in Groups. Any ideas?

Hey there mike68,

I apologize for the late response, and thank you for being patient! Were you able to figure out that speaker group issue? If not, I'd be happy to help you figure it out. First, are you trying to play video in the speaker group or just audio? If you're trying to play video, I'm sorry to say that won't work, as only music and audio will work with speaker groups.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jeran

Still won't work. I've tried 2 different Chrome Cast devices (white flat ones) as well as old black stick video ones. I am NOT trying to group devices for video, only Audio. If I cast AUDIO directly to White Chrome Cast device from YouTube Music it works perfect on that one device. When I create a group and place it with other Chrome Cast devices such as Cambridge Audio or Sony SRS speakers (both are Google Cast compliant) Nothing comes out ANY speaker. On one TV I notice, while testing, YouTube Music attempts to launch on the TV but freezes on the logo (while loading app), and no sound anywhere.

If I group only the Sony speakers, works perfect. If I group Cambridge, works perfect. If I group Sony and Cambridge works perfect. If I cast to Cambridge, Sony and AN OLD AUDIO ONLY Google Cast device (the old round black flat one with audio only outputs), works perfect. It's only a problem with newer devices with Video. I've tried casting from Pixel 5a, Pixel 7, Samsung Z Flip 4 and a Samsung S21.

I even tried plugging diretly to an HDMI amp, nope, and a HDMI converter to RCA jack, still won't work.

Hey there mike68,

That's no good to hear. This sounds like an issue that was around a few months ago. In this case, you may need to speak with Chromecast Support to do a little digging with your Chromecast with Google TV. If you don't mind, would you be able to fill out this form to have Chromecast Support reach out to you via email? Let me know if you fill out that form.

I look forward to hearing from you, and if you have any more questions, please let me know.

Best regards,

Jeran

Hey there mike68,

Thank you for filling out that form! You should have someone from Chromecast Support reach out to you via email in a few days, so keep an eye out. In the meantime, did you have any more questions that we can address on the forum? If not, I'll go ahead and lock the thread in 24 hours.

Best regards,

Jeran

So others know, I heard back from support, known issue and they have no time frame to repair. So others know, mine has been broken for over 1 year so I guess I'll be moving on to Sonos. They should be able to fix bugs timely, not take years. Go ahead and lock thread, it's over for grouping Audio with a modern ChromeCast device... Does still work with the very first audio only device.

Hey there mike68,

Thank you for letting us know there is a bug with the device. Even if there isn't a time frame, getting in contact with Chromecast Support and providing them with your device logs should help them track down and resolve the bug. In the meantime, I'll go ahead and lock the thread for now. If you have any more questions or concerns in the future, please feel free to create a new thread.

Best regards,

Jeran
