Have a device with Chromecast Built-In, but does not have the same capability as a normal device - but used to....?
A Pioneer VSX933, with Chromecast Built-In, has always not worked real well, but could always add to speaker groups, etc.
Lately, can still cast directly to it, but is not visible at all when trying to add to groups etc. Is this an issue with "Chromecast Built-In" devices, Pioneer devices, non-Google devices... whatever.
Becoming rather dissillusioned re: chromecast devices...

Just a guess, but have you checked for a firmware update on the device or checked the current firmware version for the device via the product page at Pioneer? As Google updates Chromecast and the Home app functionality the device manufacturer may provide updated firmware on their end in order to continue to interact.

Firmware definitely up-to-date - check regularly.
And yes, not sure if it's Pioneer, or what, but they only very rarely provide an update - would have thought that if Google gives the OK for a manufacturer to advertise as Chromecast Built-In, they would ensure firmware would be kept up to speed....?

Hey hornetster,
Thanks for visiting the Community.
My apologies for the late response. I appreciate @Erik_ for helping here! I know how challenging it is when you can't add your Pioneer speaker to a speaker group with your Google Home devices. Could you tell us the current cast firmware version of your Pioneer speaker?
Please note that speaker groups containing non-Google speakers or Cast-based devices may not work properly in speaker groups if they don’t receive a software update. You may notice that those devices don’t play audio in a speaker group. Third-party Cast devices like soundbars with Chromecast built-in will need to be updated to Cast firmware 1.52.272222 and above.
Cheers,
Muddi

Hi Muddi,
Thanks for the reply.
Have checked for the cast firmware version, but unsure of where to find this on this device...
The firmware version is: 1071-4000-1070-0011.
Will continue to try and figure out the Chromecast version....
Will also see if I can get a response from Pioneer..

Hey hornetster,
No worries! I'll keep the thread open for a few more days while waiting for an update from them. Feel free to update the thread as soon as you get a response from Pioneer.

Hi Muddi,
Thanks again for the reply.
Have at this point, NOT received a reply from Pioneer - have just re-messaged them - fingers crossed!
Also, after further investigation, have found that the current Chromecast Built-In version is: V1.36.145856 - This would appear to be way lower than your stated: V1.52.272222
Thanks, John

Hi hornetster,
Thanks for the update. That is the reason why your Pioneer device is not working in the speaker group because of the cast version. The best question to ask the manufacturer is, if they will still release an update for your speaker.
Cheers,
Muddi

Hi there,
Have you heard anything from Pioneer?

Yes. VERY unhelpful reponse, not actually saying, but strongly inferring, there will be no further updates to Chromecast from Pioneer...

Hey hornetster,
Sorry to hear about that. Moving forward, looks like we can consider this as complete since we figure out that the issue is with your Pioneer speaker. I'll go ahead and lock this thread in 24 hours. Feel free to start a new thread if you need assistance with your Google speakers and we'd be glad to assist you further.
Cheers,
