Chromecast can't connect to wifi

My chromecast had been working fine for over a year, and then suddenly started saying it couldn't connect to wifi. I tried all of the troubleshooting tips to no avail and thought it might have been an age issue, so purchased a new chromecast, but the same problem exists. In trying to set up it gets to the connecting to Wifi section and says it's connected for about 3 seconds, then goes back to trying to connect, and repeats that ad nauseum. I tried all the troubleshooting again, again to no avail.  I am stumped. My wifi hasn't changed, and every other device in my home is connected to the wifi and hasn't experienced any issues.

I have the same problem... tried to reset the home app, power off of the wifi modem..

I have the same issue. They also randomly reappear on my home network then drop again.

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear that you are having a connectivity issue with your Chromecast devices. Let's sort this out.

 

A few questions:

 

  • What type of Chromecast device do you have?
  • What's the LED light status in your Chromecast?
  • When reconnecting it to the network, what exact message are you getting?
  • How far is your Chromecast from the router and setup device?

Try these steps;

 

  1. Make sure the Chromecast is within 15-20 feet away from the Wi-Fi router.
  2. Reboot your Chromecast device, mobile phone, and WiFi router.
  3. Use a different supported mobile phone.
  4. Try to connect to a mobile hotspot and observe if the same issue will persist.
  5. Factory reset your Chromecast device.

Did all of the steps numerous times and still not connecting.  One time it did an update so had a wifi signal but would never connect after the update.  Just bought it 3 days ago and taking this crap thing back to store.

Buannos, have you had a chance trying the steps listed above? If yes, how was it?

 

DCo, could you please tell me what exact message you are getting when connecting the Chromecast to your network? What mobile phone are you using during set up? 

 

Please manually connect to the Chromecast SSID. Here's how: Go to the phone’s Settings > Open WiFi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set up again.
