Chromecast can't connect to wifi

Grump

So, I can't set up the Chromecast, it'll be able to see and identify and log onto it from the Google home app, but aside from last night, I haven't been able to stream because it just keeps saying "can't connect to wifi"

I've set it up AGAIN, still doesn't work, I checking in the set up again and it still finds the Chromecast no problem, it just refuses to stream for me, because it apparently can't connect to the wifi I just connected it to

Let me understand the problem coorectly. Are you connected to the Internet or not? Is it 2,4G or 5G? Did you test the speed of you Wi-Fi using Speedtest for instance? Where are your router and TV located? What is the distance?

Start with that first.

So my room is a fair way away from the router, but I have a range extender that my phone, laptop, TV and PlayStation all connect to just fine. It has both 2.5 and 5G. I set up the Chromecast to the 5G first night, and it worked a treat, the next night however it wouldn't connect to the wifi. I then set it up two more times, once on the 2.5 and another on the 5G. It would find the wifi and finish the setup, however it would then proceed to not work the minute setup was finished. I tried once more to set it up but then it just wouldn't find the wifi even then.

Hey there Grump,

I apologize about the slow response time, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that connection issue? If not, I'd be happy to look into it! When you connect your Chromecast to the Wi-Fi and get that error message, what color is the LED light on the Chromecast? It may point out an error if there is any error occurring.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help here, robus_pl and Jeran. I appreciate it!

Grump, how's it going? Do you still need help? If so, please try the steps listed below:

  1. Make sure the Chromecast device is plugged into a power outlet, rather than the USB port.
  2. From your mobile phone, turn Wi-Fi off then on.
  3. Force close and reopen the Google Home app.
  4. Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app.
  5. Reboot your Wi-Fi router, Chromecast, and mobile phone.
  6. Use a different mobile phone.
  7. Factory reset your Chromecast.
  8. Manually connect to the Chromecast SSID. Here's how: Go to the phone Settings > Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set up again.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Jennifer
