Chromecast connected to old wifi

Sloanicole

Hello, I’m currently running my household completely on a wifi extender. It has never had any issues but my grandma changed the wifi name and now I have to change it on my chromecast. Problem is, I already deleted the device off my google home app so I can not factory reset or just change it in the settings. I’ve manually put the wifi name, password and security countless times but now it’s saying it can’t communicate with my iPhone while I’m trying to connect the chromecast to the new wifi name

Hi Sloanicole,

Thanks for reaching out. If there's any recent changes to the router settings like in your case the WiFi name was changed, you may try the steps listed below:

  • Check the Wi-Fi settings of the phone and connect directly to the Chromecast's temporary hotspot, Chromecast XXXX, or manually look for the previous name that has been used for the Chromecast device like Living Room TV or Bedroom TV, and then proceed with the normal setup.
  • Reboot the Chromecast.
  • Reboot the WiFi router.
  • Factory reset the Chromecast device. Here's a guide: How to factory reset your Chromecast.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Jennifer
