I was very excited to upgrade our home with a Google Nest Max, 2 Chromcast tv dongles, 3 Google Nest 2nd Gen’s, 2 Nest speakers, 3 Nest Cameras, and the Nest doorbell. Very costly right? Many features have been great and some have been disappointing. For this thread I want to know why I cannot play movies, tv shows, etc. on my tv with chromcast and cast the audio to the rest of the house on a speaker group. Very disappointed.

Hi L73,
You can only cast audio over speaker groups and it's not currently possible to split the audio from a video steam and have it cast to other speakers. Google haven't said why, presumably it's because of audio lag.

Thanks… just curious if you know if they are planning to address it. It’s a lot of money to spend and still require another system/brand for the tv.

Hi again,
Sorry no this is a community forum and I don't work for Google. What I found interesting is that when I cast from the Plex app and then went in to the Google Home app and used the media button I could add some other speakers but the experience was far from perfect. I checked a few other apps but Plex seemed to be on only one that let me add speakers afterwards.

The only question I have is if a fox is in the works for this. I would like to use google nest for tv surround sound, but if it is not going to happen then I will look for another system that is compatible.

Hey there L73,
I'm sorry to say, but I cannot confirm that there are any changes to speaker groups to split audio to speakers and video to Chromecast. If this is something you'd like to see in the future, I'd highly recommend you submit feedback via the Google Home app. I know this isn't the answer you wanted, and I understand it's disappointing since I know I would also take advantage of the same setup, but if Google receives enough feedback, they are more likely to take notice.
If you had any more questions or concerns, please let us know.
Best regards,
Jeran

Thank you for your help, Cathal!
