Chromecast not connecting to laptop

Press1db

I just got my new chromecast yesterday and got it all set up just fine out of the box. I was able to mirror my screen from my laptop to my TV which was the biggest reason I got this. Stopped watching for a few hours and then came back and suddenly I am not able to connect my laptop to it.

I power cycled the actual chromecast unit and no change. I did a factory reset and went through the whole setup process again, but no luck. and now my TV isn't even showing up when I try to add a new bluetooth device

It's not my laptop (I don't think) since I am able to still connect other bluetooth things to it. I am able to mirror my cellphone screen to my chromecast, so its not like the unit is completely broken either. But connecting my laptop to the chromecast is not working anymore.

Anyone else experience anything similar?

Hi Press1db,

Thanks for reaching out. Let's sort this out.

A few questions: are you getting any messages when casting using your laptop? What's the make and model of your laptop? Are you using the Chrome browser when casting?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Make sure you're using the Google Chrome browser and that it’s up-to-date.
  2. Reboot your Wi-Fi router.
  3. Reboot your Chromecast again.
  4. Reboot your laptop.
  5. Make sure the OS version of your laptop is updated and no pending updates.
  6. Check the antivirus of the computer. There are cases (mostly in Windows) wherein the Chromecast device fails to work after the antivirus finishes an update. If this happens, call your antivirus provider.
  7. Perform another Factory reset.

Thanks,

Jennifer

1- No, I am not getting any message. My chromecast isn't even discoverable by my laptop, so I can't even attempt to connect.

I did all the other things on the list and I am still no change

Hey there,

I'm sorry for the late response. Does your computer or laptop has a firewall installed? If yes, try to disable it and check again. Also, please check if your computer clock is out of sync with the current internet time. It’s recommended you turn on automatic time synchronization so your clock is always up to date.

Thanks,

Jennifer
