Chromecast not connecting to wifi

kvin

My chromecast will not connect to wifi. I've gone through every step in the trouble shooting guide on chromecast.com/help as well as uninstalling/reinstalling Google Home app. Also tried all solutions mentioned in the community posts that I could find to no avail.  What to do?

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out and I'm sorry to hear that you're having a connectivity issue with your Chromecast. Let's sort this out.

A few questions: what type of Chromecast device do you have? What device is used to complete the setup and what's the OS version (iOS or Android)? Has the Chromecast been connected to this network before or is this the first time setting up the device?

Please try the steps below. Let me know if you've done this already or if it helps you resolve the issue:

  1. Check if the Chromecast device is within 15 to 20 feet of the setup device and the Wi-Fi router.
  2. Toggle Wi-Fi off and on from the setup device.
  3. Restart the router.
  4. Restart the Chromecast device.
  5. Restart your mobile phone.
  6. Close and then reopen the Google Home app.
  7. If you're using an iOS device during setup, please turn on Local Network Access.
  8. Set up the Chromecast on a different mobile device.
  9. Manually connect to the Chromecast SSID. Here's how: go to the phone settings > Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set it up again.
  10. Factory reset your Chromecast. Here's a guide: How to factory reset your Chromecast.

Best,

Jennifer

Thank you for the response, but as I my Roku is working fine, I don’t want to spend any more time on this. I will be exchanging it for a roku or fire stick, because I know those work for me.

Hi Jen,

Following the steps above is not helping, I'm afraid. Its a 1st gen chromecast, which worked until I tried to connect it to a new Internet network a few days ago. I'll give it one more go before I pack it in.
