Chromecast not showing on Nokia fastmile router

Vampyleo

I have just changed my home internet from NBN to Optus 5G using a Nokia Fastmile 5G modem. Everything is working great so far except for all of my Google devices.

I reset all of the devices and connected them to the new network and they are connected to the internet & currently are showing the usual picture display but in the Google home App they show as offline when i try to check the settings for each device. Therefore there is no control from the App (my iPhone running the App is connected to the same SSID as the google devices) for any of my devices and I can't get my Chromecast(s) to show, Its only the Google devices (I have Google Mini's, Google Home, and Chromecasts connected all with the same issue)

I tried resetting all the devices and reconnecting on my old NBN modem and everything works perfectly so It seems to be that there is a setting and or issue with the Nokia Fastmile 5G modem that effects the Google devices?

I have never had an issue before when casting, from my iPhone nor previous home internet. I have 2 chromecast devices 1st gen & 3Rd both were working before this new router & internet.
inhave set up both 2.4ghz & 5GHz on separate SSID etc, tried all the WAP/ ghz, options plus re-starting all devices every time I change settings.
this issue was similar to another user but the fix for him has not solved mine. I was also hoping to get up my home mini.

Any ideas to try would be great as it’s 2 weeks now no tv

I'd be interested to know the solution as have exactly the same issue. Chromecast devices all factory reset and connected to the new WiFi. But all showing as offline in the app.

Network tracing tool show then as active..

Interestingly, my TV also can't see my NAS device either.. So not just a phone issue.. Seems that the router is blocking something on the WiFi?

In the past several days. I have been experiencing difficulties marking into my Bitbucket record, and I have seen the regular objective for the issue with the going with message which appears, apparently, to be shared objective for issue:

Would love to know this. Must have reset my chromecast 20 times.

In the beyond couple of days. I have been encountering challenges signing into my Bitbucket record, and I have seen the typical goal for the issue with the accompanying message which seems, by all accounts, to be common goal for issue:

Did a factory reset on the Nokia router.. Then changed the 2.4 & 5ghz WiFi to different names.. Configured all devices onto the same (2.4ghz) network. Then factory reset the chromecast..  Seems to work now

Yeah done all that still no go. Both Chromecast’s and the home mini

Im the same its driving me mad

Did a plant reset on the Nokia switch. Then changed the 2.4 and 5ghz WiFi to various names.. Arranged all gadgets onto the equivalent (2.4ghz) network.

I had this same issue from the day mine was delivered. Three Chromecasts plus a wi-fi printer showing up on the device list with no problem, but couldn’t actually use them for anything. Like you, I also used the teeny reset button under the Nokia Fastmile to do the factory reset, that immediately fixed it without any need to rename the wi-fi bands.

I changed the namss and this hasn't worked for me.

Did a manufacturing plant reset on the Nokia switch. Then, at that point, changed the 2.4 and 5ghz WiFi to various names.. Designed all gadgets onto the equivalent (2.4ghz) network. Then, at that point, industrial facility reset the chromecast.. Appears to work now

Hey there,

Did you have any more questions or need any additional help with that particular router issue?

Thank you,

Factory reset on the Optus Nokia Fastmile modem proved not to be a permanent fix.  My printer needed a reboot for a different reason later on, and since that reboot it again now shows "Offline" on the PC's print dialogue box.  Also, the various streaming apps (Netflix, Prime, Disney, etc) on two different iOS devices may or may not show that there's a Chromecast available for streaming.

Both these issues do not appear when everything is placed back on my original (pre-Optus) modem wifi network.

I'll be returning the Fastmile to Optus because they have not responded to my fault reports.

I called Optus today and cancelled the 5G NBN service, because I am in the 30-day trial period and can cancel for free.

They showed no interest in the problems I was having, nor in the fact I told them about the issue back on 15 December 2021 without ever getting any response from them.

Yes, can you please provide a solution. I'm still unable to cast anything through the Nokia FastMile 5G Gateway router.

Has anyone got any solution yet as I’m facing same issue with my Nokia 5G modem

I contacted Optus today about the issue and they advised there's a known fault with the compatibility of the two devices... So no fix.

+1 for this issue; got in touch with Google, Optus and Nokia and was sent in circles. Optus noted the same compatibility issue that you mentioned and said that Nokia are "probably working on it"... so same result. I guess until that happens (if ever, or Optus changes their 5G modems) we're out of luck.

I find it interesting that it's specifically casting to the Chromecast that doesn't work with this modem because the following things work perfectly over my WiFi:

  • The TV functionality of the Chromecast with Google TV;
  • Casting from my phone or laptop through my LG TV's native screen mirroring functionality.

I'm not sure whether this is on Google, Nokia, or both to fix.

i am unable to cast anything to my android tv or to my projector (using google chromecast stick).... the best part is that all the things work fine with an older 4g modem i had previously.... its confirmed for a fact that the problem is with Nokia 5G modem... they are not compatible with chromecast... simple...

what a frustrating issue, i will also be contacting optus and i hope they have heard this query enough to take serious in finding a solution for us. it would be a shame to let 5G go because of a simple unexpected compatibility issue

This worked for me
https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Google-Home-and-Optus-5G-Nokia-Fastmile...

Log into the router at 192.168.1.1 (login details on the bottom of the device), go to Network / WiFi Network / 5Ghz and change "Channel" from Auto to 36

Which was wierd, because looking at the connected devices, the chromecast is the only device connected on the 2.4ghz network.

No one at Optus gave me any clue that this wouldn't work.

Changing the Channel to 36 worked for me !! Now I’m able to cast but I’m unable to connect my Alexa now 😂😂😂 this Nokia 5G modem is pushing me to go back to 4G in life

I'm just going to cancel mine and go to NBN. It's terrible anyway

... and then a few days later I changed back to default because all other devices were having intermittent connections issues. Now the Chromecast seems to mostly work but my wife can't cast from her phone but I can.... and the Fetch supplied by Optus can't connect to the internet even though everything else can. Technology.... sigh.

I've done all this and it's still not connecting.

As per below I have one part working but not the other. The guy from Optus did say the Nokia was constantly having upgrades and I noticed this today when back in there.

Same thing here, and I'm starting to give up :((

I called Optus and they fixed it you have to change you wrap security

Select Encryption Mode wow:wapa2/wpa3 personal

WPA Version  esp/wap2

To help clarify this explanation:

  • Log in to the router at 192.168.1.1
  • Network
  • Wi-Fi Networks
  • 2.4GHz (or whichever one is being used for Chromecast)
  • WPA Version: WPA2 (not WPA2/WPA3 or WPA3)

It seems that Chromecast doesn't support WPA3, and for some reason mixed mode (WPA2/WPA3) doesn't work with it either even though it should. See this thread, though these people couldn't get a WiFi connection at all: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Chromecast/Chromecast-4-0-can-t-connect-to-wifi-WPA2-WPA3-mix...).

For me switching the 2.4GHz network to use WPA2 only fixed the casting issue temporarily, then it stopped working again. Shrug. Even if switching to WPA2 only worked it's still not ideal as devices that do support WPA3 wouldn't be able to use the higher level of security.

Hello,

So doing this helped fix the google nest mini, which is now set up and running but has not helped the Chromecast.
In saying that there are many more features available to the Nokia portal which wasn’t there before so I will look at playing some more with testing to see if I cannot find a way to get this working.

thanks though one out of 2 devices

I would like to say hello to you,

Would you mind answering any additional questions you may have? Would you like any additional help?

Hi there, I did a factory reset of the router through the router settings portal. Seemed to have worked, 2 chrome cast and 2 home minis working fine now.

I ended up buying and adding a pair of mesh Wi-Fi extenders and the Chromecast and my two minis connected perfectly, I had tried all suggestions without success.

Had same issue until I set up my Ubiquiti access point and attaching iphone and chromecasts to this rather than directly to optus router worked fine. Setting up seperate wifi point for these additional devices seems to be a workaround.

Would you be able elaborate more on the workaround please.

Looks like another layer of WIFi mesh device is required for the solution, will Netgear Orbi work?

I have not found a solution with the Google Chromecast devices. The TV I got was the cheaper end of smart TV so unless that company pushes all the streaming Apps out on it you are limited to what it has installed.
I ended up getting a Foxtel Now box which allows me to cast to & I have this plugged into the wifi box via Cable.
I ended up getting it for $30 from Kogan & it was the most inexpensive solution I could find.

I have noticed the router has a lot more options available now in the settings and I say it’s only a matter of time before Nokia software is compatible.

I was trying to get this problem sorted out since last year and today I got it working. I tried the above options but what worked for me was this:

1. Visit http://192.168.1.1

2. Log in with the admin user/pass given at the bottom of your Nokia device.

3. Scroll down to "System" and then click reset this device.

4. Restart Nokia modem.

5. Reset chromecast and pair it again.

I hope this works for you guys too.
