Chromecast refuses to connect last step

Samd5280

My chromecast has worked no problem for well over a year. I went to connect in my Hulu app and there is no casting symbol. I pull up google home and there is no device. So I go through full set up numerous times and every time it gets the the step where it connects to wifi…says connected and then I get “something went wrong” screen: TV may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPhone. Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your iPhone’s privacy settings. Then try again.

i have done all the troubleshooting, unplugged everything and even tried from another iPhone…nothing worked. Any suggestions??

I am having the exact same issue. Last week it started not showing up when trying to cast and I’ve done 3 factory resets and all go stuck on the same step

Same thing started happening to me since yesterday. Except im using android, and my roomie who has an iPhone can still cast without any problems.. 🤔

I face the same problem. I just bought a new Chromecast Ultra today and for some reason, it’s not allowing me to contact at all. Tried the steps, WiFi settings and even adjusting my whole smart home all over again. Still stuck on something went wrong.

Hey there Samd5280,

I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast is having some connection issues! I'd be happy to help out, let me just ask you some questions to better understand what's happening:

  • When did this issue start happening?
  • What color is the LED light on the Chromecast?
  • What version of Google Home are you using?
  • Are you able to cast from another device, such as a PC or tablet?

Then just to be safe, I'd recommend you check out this article on common Chromecast connection issues, it may not be 100% related to the issue, but it has a good checklist of items and steps that may solve the problem.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran,

if I unplug for a minute and then plug in it will work (I can find it via the Google home app or with another app trying to cast) but then after 5-10 minutes the chrome cast disconnects and then cannot find it again

Thanks for the reply! That is strange, let me ask you some questions about what's happening:

  • What model of Chromecast do you have?
  • What version of Google Home are you using?
  • Are you using an iOS or Android device to cast?
  • Is the Chromecast's firmware up to do?

Also, I had some questions I wanted OP to answer, so I could dig a little deeper into the issue, feel free to answer those as well if you have the time. I look forward to your response!

Thank you,

Jeran

I have the original first gen chrome cast that’s having the issue, the Google home app on iOS is up to date (using iOS 14.8). I do not see the ability to find out if the firmware is up to date.

for comparison my Vizio TV has chrome cast built in and shows up all of the time while my standalone chrome cast is the one that doesn’t

Awesome, thanks for that! When that 1st Gen Chromecast encounters that issue, what color is the LED light on it? I'm curious if the Chromecast itself is running into an error.

It’s red, then after power cycling goes white and works, then turns red again. Not blinking red just solid

Hmm, that's no good. If it's turning red, and a factory reset does not fix the issue, then I'm sorry to say, but the device may be dying/dead. There's not really much you can do in that situation aside from replacing the device entirely.

I'm really sorry I couldn't have been more help, but if you had any more questions or concerns, please ask.

Thank you,

Jeran

  • When did this issue start happening? September 29
  • What color is the LED light on the Chromecast? White
  • What version of Google Home are you using? 2.44.105 iOS
  • Are you able to cast from another device, such as a PC or tablet? No

i tried all of the troubleshooting in the article you sent and not connecting still

Hey there,

No problem, there are a few things we can check out still:

  • Have you made any network changes?
  • Is Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) enabled on your router settings?
  • Is AP Isolation is disabled in your router settings?

  • Are your VPNs disabled?

  • Do you have Local Network Access turned on for your iOS devices?

  • Are you located in a supported country

The issue may point to the network settings, since your Google Home app is up-to-date and the Chromecast's LED is a solid white. I look forward to your response!
