Chromecast remote batteries draining in 25 days

Chromecast remote batteries draining in 25 days - brand new Energizer alkaline AAA batteries, tested 1.58 volts on 23 Jan 2022, died on 18 Feb 2022 (25 days), tested 1.39 volts.  Am using a couple of hours each evening, mostly  Netflix with a dumb Sharp TV which has its own remote for volume, and removing the batteries overnight.  Not using with a smartphone. 25 days seems very short. Is this normal? How long does Google say the batteries should last? I guess this is a 3rd gen Chromecast, bought in 2021. How do I check what generation it is?

Hi GerardGS,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community. If your device comes with a remote, it means that you have the latest generation of Chromecast. Also for battery life, we expect 6+ months with normal use.

Please give these steps a try:

  1. Try to check if there are stuck buttons on the remote.
  2. Check for pending remote software updates. Go to Settings > Remotes and Accessories > Remote update > Continue. The remote may briefly disconnect during the software update.
  3. Unpair the remote. Go to Settings > Remotes and Accessories > Chromecast Remote > Forget.
  4. Perform a factory data reset (FDR) on the Chromecast and Voice Remote.
  5. Pair the Chromecast and Voice Remote again. Refer to this article
  6. Test the Voice Remote with new or good batteries.

After doing the steps, please observe the behavior of your Voice Remote and keep me posted.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi there,

How's it going with your Voice Remote? Did those steps help?
