Chromecast thinks ap isolation is active but it's not

I've owned my Chromecast for a while and had it previously set up at a different property and different router.

now we've moved, it first refused to find the new router connection so i figured in some way it must be trying to connect with old settings etc so did a factory reset.

now it will connect to the router, it gets internet, time, weather and background images. but as soon as it sets up i get an error saying while it has internet it is not discoverable on my network and this may be caused by my phone or by ap isolation.

I'm using a d-link dir853 router and i have full admin access, and the phone is Samsung a50 running the latest Android (what are we on, like Android 8 by now?) and using the home app, and there are no extenders, the modem is in the next room and phone is in the same room.

I've run out of ideas and resources to help.

I've reduced the modem setting to g/n from b/g/n, never had guest mode, only have 2.4ghz, tried with wps on and off, upnp is active and the modem has some sort of mimo or something active as well.

i don't think many other settings matter, most of them are factory settings but I'm open to ideas.

thanks in advance for any help.

There aren't wrong answers here just not applicable to your situationz so you can try the hotspot route.

I would actually turn off your wifi security, and see if you can connect to your wifi that way.  If that works, then out your wifi security back on, and make sure it's wpa2 and AES encryption.

Another thing it could be is the router is blocking the Chromecast with some sort of firewall, that may be visible in your routers logs.  A factory reset of the router might be an idea to try as well.

Whenever you try to connect a Chromecast to a new network it just be factory reset, so you did get to the right solution, but sadly there seems to be an issue still.   That's a bit of an older model router but I did find this forum post about a similar issue with solutions you can look into.  Also we are on Android 12 now.

If you are absolutely positive that ap isolation is not active,

thanks.

i have read through that article which is what lead me to reply here after a lot of it didn't work. i hadn't tried setting up static IPs for all my devices, i don't much fancy trying it, this shouldn't be necessary as the cc does has internet access.

the only other thing i could try from that list would be dns relaying, same thing, I'm not sure it would help because the cc has internet access but i would try that before messing with dhcp.

the solution on that article said he had changed wifi settings rather than internet settings but didn't actually specify which setting was changed so I'm still at a bit of a loss.

there was a solution saying the Chromecast was set up on hotspot from a cell phone to allow temporary access to update firmware, is this sensible to try since I've done a factory reset?
