Chromecast turning on and off

FullOfJubes

When I use my Chromecast for video casting (screencast, Netflix and YouTube) from multiple devices (iPhone, android, PC) the TV will turn on and off repeatedly while the video continues to play.

It works normally for Spotify.

I've been using this Chromecast with this TV (Samsung) with no problems for years, this issue only started about a month ago, so I assume it's caused by an update.

I tried resetting the Chromecast and setting it up again, but the issue persists.

Is this happening to anyone else???

I've run out of ideas about how to fix it.

Update: I tried multiple HDMI ports, did not fix the issue.

Bought a new Chromecast, it worksed fine for Netflix for a while, but now it will pause itself if I play anything from Netflix on the app (but it's fine when I cast Netflix from my phone). It will continuously turn itself off on some YouTube videos, but not others.

I suspect it may be an issue with my TV. I'll try and do a software update on it.

Hey there,

Did you have any more questions or need any additional help?

Thank you,

Hey Jean,

I would like additional help. I am still having this issue.

Do you know what might be causing certain videos to turn off and on repeatedly? It seems to only happen in certain circumstances.

Spotify works fine.

Netflix works when casting from my phone, but not from Google TV.

Thanks,

Jude

Hey there FullOfJubes,

No problem at all! We can look into this issue to see where the root problem is, let me just ask you a few questions to better understand what could be happening:

  • Just to double-check, is this issue occurring with your 3rd-Gen Chromecast, as well as the Chromecast with Google TV?
  • What color is the LED light on the Chromecast when this issue happens?
  • Are you powering the Chromecast using a USB port, or a wall outlet?
  • Is the device hot to the touch when this issue occurs?
  • What type of TV do you have?

I look forward to your response, and if you had any other questions or concerns, please let me know!

Best regards,

Jeran
