Chromecast turns off by itself

My brand new Chromecast turns off consistently within 15 minutes of turning it on. Very annoying. Using an LG 50 inch flatscreen.

Any suggestions to eliminate this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Two things....

Make sure you are NOT using the TV's USB ports to power your Chromecast.  Those ports are designed for thumb-drives and not full-fledged electronics like Chromecast devices.

Also, if you have the new Chromecast with Google TV (the oblong one with a remote), there is a timeout in the settings (top right corner of your TV screen).  That turns off the Chromecast after it's been sitting in Ambient Mode for a while.  You can increase that by going to the settings.

Didn't work 😔

Had to disconnect my Chromecast and use the native smart tv software, which isn't very good.

Hey there stomas284,

I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast is acting up, I know it's frustrating when the device doesn't work properly when it's brand new! Let me just ask you some questions, so we can see where the issue is:

  • What is the model of your LG TV?
  • When the device turns off, is anything displayed on the screen?
  • How warm or hot is the Chromecast when this happens?
  • Are you playing games or just watching/casting videos?

Ideally, the Chromecast shouldn't be any warmer than what's comfortable to touch, if it's getting hot, that would be a good pointer. However, if it isn't hot and the screen is just back when the Chromecast shuts off, we can try some specific steps.

I look forward to your response, and thank you for your help, Byteguy!

Best regards,

Jeran
