I use Google photos for ambient mode on all my Chromecasts, but it's missing from this Chromecast ultra. I just factory reset it, and my Google account is fully linked like my other Chromecasts, but I have no Google photos option for ambient mode. See screenshot.

Appreciate you confirming that. To provide the best support with this, I've shared this with the Chromecast community team to check on troubleshooting options or next steps.

I have the same problem. I have the same google account used for Google Photos, Google Home and Google TV. All are connected to the same wifi.

I have the exact same issue. Google Chromecast Ultra. Factory reset. Everything is in the same account. Still missing the option in ambient mode to show my own google photos when it was working for a long time previously 😕

I have two Vizio TVs one is a 24 in d series and one is a 43 inch v series both use Google photos in ambient mode... suddenly there was an update now Google photos are no longer available on my 43 in

Go to the Google Photos app, click your icon, select photo settings, the photo frames. I was able to make my selections there.

This does not work all it says is check your internet connection everything's connected Google is doing something again as usual

That's not the issue the issue is in the Google home app itself scroll down to your TV hit your TV in your TV it has ambient mode there used to be three choices: experimental, art gallery and Google photos... all three used to be available for my Vizio 43 inch v series now Google photos is no longer available for whatever reason... But this is Google we're talking about look how much other stuff Google screws up and changes and breaks in the process... Let's go a step further almost 2 years ago Google home had a major update ever since then ok Google has not been right has not worked right... On top of that location is no longer proper and correct and accurate anymore because Google went from just a location to a specific location I have my specific location toggled it used to work properly and then after that same major update it no longer worked right... And that's on three different phones plus a Wi-Fi tablet all three phones are from different service providers so this cannot be pointed at any one device...

Thanks! That did the trick. I hope someone at Google untangle all those settings to make them work more seamless.

SOLVED: just turn off and turn on Chromecast

Had the same problem. After factory reset it still didn't show up. Disconnecting the Chromecast didn't work. Finally, I rebooted the Chromecast from the Google Home app and Google Photos now shows as a choice in the Ambient settings. Good luck. You will persevere over technology!

Make sure "Apps Only Mode" is disabled (Settings -> Accounts and Sign In -> Account_Name -> Apps only mode. Then google photos will appear

If not, factory reset and go thru new device set up.

this was the solution for my setup. it is a shame that the price for this basic function is a cluttered and bloated home screen.

Had the same issue. Since adding children's accounts following the recent update and switching accounts to app only mode. My account wasn't app only mode but appears to be a global setting rather than account which blocked photos. Turned it off on three devices and all three showed Google photos again. Hopefully something for the future to allow accounts to have different settings but still use ambient mode

Okay that's confusing as hell it's a bunch of gibberish I have no clue what you're trying to say

Where we can find such adjustments? Into Google Home? Photos? Can you clarify?

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting and apologies for the late reply.

@renfab @Dkbott, you can check out this link on how to check ambient settings on the Google Home app.

@duglop, quick question — what troubleshooting steps have you done so far? Try to uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Nikki

Hiya DoctorRob,

I'm talking with a higher tier of support about this issue to see what we can find out. First, would you be able to check if your Google Home app and Google Photos app are both up-to-date? Also, please make sure that they are both using the same Google account.

A work-around we can try is to try putting the missing album as your favorite to see if you can see the missing album afterwards.

I look forward to your response on this!

I went to every device today and went to about info and all the devices are identicle in, OS ver, OS Patch, Kernal and TV Build. So why is one got no Google Pictures?

Hey there DoctorRob,

Just to confirm, what is the firmware version of your Chromecast? If you are using stable firmware, would you be able to join the Preview Program, then uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app after the update?

I really appreciate your help on this, and look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Jeran

Yep, had the same issue, and definitely seem an issue in the Home app. But Jwelch's Photos app suggestion (‎11-06-2021) did the trick: "Go to the Google Photos app, click your icon, select photo settings, the photo frames. I was able to make my selections there."
