Chromecast volume control from phone was back, but gone again?

CaptSteel

The issue with Sonos is well known, and was functionally resolved for Chromecast users in early 2022, myself included.  However, lately, I have lost the ability to control cast volume from my phone when using apps.  The only way to control Chromecast volume using the phone rocker button seems to be to use the Google Home app, basically regressing to the behavior before Google supposedly addressed the issue in January 2022.  Am I alone in this?

I'm using a Google Pixel 6 Pro.

All updates applied to the Android OS and apps on the phone.

Build number SQ3A.220605.009.A1

I've tested using Netflix and Hulu.  The issue is the same for both apps.

I also have two Chromecasts, and have experienced the same lack of functionality on both, so it does not appear to be specific to a single improperly functioning Chromecast device.

I've tried rebooting the phone, and rebooting the Chromecast, with no improvement to the issue.

Any useful suggestions to resolve the issue would be appreciated.

Hi CaptSteel,

Thanks for posting and for providing detailed info about your issue. Could you please try to use a different mobile phone and check if the same issue persists? Also, please try to do a reset on one of your Chromecast and try again.

Thanks,

Jennifer

A friend tried using Hulu from an iPhone and was able to control the Chromecast audio using the phone's rocker button.  So, the issue must with the Pixel or Android, or both.

Rebooted the Chromecast (as requested, but I had done that before).
