Chromecast w Google TV frame rate stutter

salputrid

This happens across all apps some more than others.

I am using the Google TV interface.

This was not an issue with the Chromecast 3rd gen when I cast from my iphone.

Hi folks,

I'm sorry for the late response. This has been forwarded to the team and they're looking into this. I'll loop back in once we have an update about this.

Best,

Jennifer

Same micro-stutters are even happening quite often when streaming from Spotify.

I have had these same stuttering issue since Android 12 update. Have tried all applicable environment changes (wired, changed HDMI port etc. Nothing had resolved the issue...until I disabled Dolby Digital Plus in advanced sound settings. Been testing for hours, with no stutter.

Hope this works!

Good for you. But not working in my set-up...

I have the problem on headphones. I have to disable all surround options to get that to work on Disney+ - so like some others at least, not a solution for me.

I was excited to try this out but sadly I found that this was already disabled in my settings, so not a fix for me 😞

A reboot always seems to fix it for me temporarily, but it always comes back...horrible experience

Yeah, the issue seems to have returned.  Hey Google!  Fix our Chromecasts, please.

For things like this, Google will never be like Apple. Google is very slow fixing problems.

Any fix on this? I have regular stutter while using the NBA app. Super annoying

As with other bits of tech I have, I struggle on, thinking I can put up with the problems. Then I end up buying an Apple product instead.

Apple TV being delivered on Monday, Google added to the list of products I’ll be avoiding from now on.

So, my Apple TV turned up early. Seems good so far apart from one thing.
Netflix doesn’t support casting to it with airplay.
It’s never straightforward.

Why would you need casting ? Why not just use the app ? If you want to control the playback with your phone you can if it’s an Apple device

I also switch one of my CC with the appletv 4K and honestly for me it’s perfect I will never go back. Kept my CC in my bed room because it’s not worth the cost imho but for my main entertainment center I love it !

I do like to browse Netflix on iPad then cast to the CC when I’ve chosen something.
I guess I can start playing it on iPad then resume on Apple TV.

One other thing to keep in mind is that AirPlay doesn’t work like cast in the sense that your device is sending the content to the player unlike the cc which receives a link and doesn’t need the device to be on the whole time.

To me it makes AirPlay less useable apart from sending photos or videos from my smartphone.

Could we please keep focus on the issue at hand.  This is a "Google" forum.

Same issue here.

The fact of the matter is, I am never getting another Google TV player from Google. I got this one for free and I still feel cheated. What a trash. I hope Nvidia releases and update nvidia shield...

The fact of the matter is, the device was fine until the android 12 update. It 'was' the best streaming device. People here want their device fixed. They do not want to switch to Apple. Go be a fanboy somewhere else. Thank you.

sorry, that’s fair enough, if it streamed as well as my old chrome cast I’d be more than happy with it,  Apple TV is far from a perfect device either from my experiences so far.
Still very frustrating that google  seem to have broken the primary function of their chromecasts though, and months later, there’s still no sign of a fix.

Screw you! I hate Apple and I am not getting Apple trash. Clearly you are the fan boy if you can't see how broken this pos player is

Troll detected ... For clarity i brought two apple tv's to fix my issue (which it did instantly... plug and play) and i'm probably the most anti apple tech person you'll ever meet, so that should speak volumes on how weak sauce google is for working devices and consumer support. @All sell your Chromecasts or put them in the bin. Nvidia shield or Apple TV is the way to go.

Gonna try that nvidia shield. I ll post my review. If its the same i ll sent it back.

Let me know, please, I am thinking of getting it as well

Did you get the Nvidia? Please let us know your feedback when you have a chance. I'm considering the same right now.

4 months is an incomprehensible amount of time to not yet have a fix - but I've learned from our Nest Wifi mesh experience that as a whole, Google is never in a rush to fix what's broken. They're only in a rush to ignore the mistake and move on to something new.

Yes i bought it. No more problems

I bought Nvidia shield PRO as well, much more smoother playback and overall it is a better device, I use id also to play in Xbox cloud gaming. Video enhancement for HD works perfectly and they have a match framerate option that also seems to work.

I did the same shortly after, also the Pro. For a while, no issues...  Within a few months or so, frame rate drop / stutter / judder, whatever we're calling it, happens on nearly every app (it seemed to slowly spread across them, perhaps as they updated). Evidently there's even a known issue with the Vudu app that renders any HDX viewing unwatchable - an every 3-second stutter - across Google TV / Android platforms.

Dare I say it, I don't remember ever having these playback issues on any app with Roku, which we had prior to our Chromecasts.

Hi all just got a reply email from support and seems the best way is to sent feedback form the Chromecast, here is part of the email that might interest you all:

This is actually a known issue and most of these were triggered after the Android TV 12 update. Over-the-air patch updates are being sent to reported affected units. I suggest you send feedback via Google TV settings. Our Developers team and Engineering team are working on this and several cases have already been resolved but there are still units affected and new ones being reported that's why as of now we still don't have an estimated time of resolution.

That's very interesting. It also seems like one department isn't talking to another, because some people (myself included) have been asked to return devices for replacement... Mine is going in the post tomorrow. I must admit it felt very much like a software issue and I wasn't hopeful that a physical replacement would make any difference, but I realised long ago that the only option is to go through whatever support process is on offer.

Is there any ticket reference for this correspondence that we can site when other support channels say that we need to get units replaced?

Kadius

In my case replacement would not be possible I have had it for too long.

I have only my case number there was no reference to any ticket.

Was there any explanation why they can't just send out a blanket firmware update to fix this? I've tried sending feedback, will see what happens I guess.

Schrieky

I agree, it wasn't an issue previously. Just with the newest update. It would be nice if a Google employee would respond to us

Kadius
Community Member

No, I guess that's because it would not be possible.

Well this is an interesting new wrinkle in what seems to be a decent solution to months-long ongoing framerate problems:

"Send Feedback via Google TV Settings" doesn't seem to work now? Or maybe it never worked? Or maybe working is just that it drops you back to the front page? Because that's what happens when I go into the menu, scroll down to the help/feedback section, and select the option to send feedback. I just get thrown straight back to the menu.

I haven't tried today but I just used it 2 days ago and it worked fine.

My support experience is different. About 3 weeks after submitting a ticket regarding very poor performance of my new Google Chromecast 4K with Google TV - compared to the internal app on the Samsung 4K TV - I received a reply stating that I need to contact the manufacturer.

In my reply I asked who the manufacturer of the Google Chromecast 4K was, and they replied that iI needed to contact Samsung.

I'm assuming it's some very primitive AI they're using for support.

On the bright side it's a $AU99 lesson. I was planning to update my mobile to a high end Pixel. Feature list is excellent, but the company can't do support it seems. They'll never compete with Apple in that area.

Has anyone had the issue resolved via the OTA update mentioned above? Any case number to mention? No one I have talked to is familiar at Google.

Apparently there is no any update available which is resolving this issue.
