I've seen this on 2 of the latest Chromecast w/GTV devices: after using it for about 3 months or so, the storage is totally full and the apps stop updating. I then do a factory reset to get things back to normal (with a couple Gig of free space), and I must then sign in to all my streaming services yet again.
When starting out, a Cromecast w/GTV device claims to have 4.4GB of total storage with somewhere around 1.5 GB of that used up in the Apps category (I typically uninstall a couple apps and install one). Over time, the value in Apps continues to bloat until it reaches a size of around 3.7GB (with no changes in installed apps) which is when the Available storage in the list reaches 0. (There is only a minor amount of space listed as Cached data.) The total of all the amounts listed in the Storage categories always seems to be smaller than 4.4GB, typically by about 0.5GB.
Anyone else seeing this? I'd love to recommend one of these GTV devices, but telling someone that every 3 months they need to do a factory reset just seems to be too annoying of an issue.

Expand Chromecast with Google TV storage using a powered USB-C hub and a USB storage device (thumb drive or HDD) or storage card.

Given that there should be over 2GB of free space on the GTV if it weren't buggy, I'd prefer for this bug to just get fixed.

I'm not shure the device is buggy, but I can tell you that on my device, besides the prei-nstalled applications, I have 8 applications installed and the available storage is showing 4.4 GB.
While I have Netflix and Amazon Prime applications installed, I don't use them on this device. I mainly use YouTube Premium, Plex, VLC, MX player, Nova Player and two applications from LG that allows me to play DVD and CD audio discs from an external DVD player for Android.
I also use a powered USB-C Hub which allows me to connect an external USB HDD and an audio digital to analog converter with USB input. All sound is routed to the USB audio DAC.
The Chromecast device is connected to a HDMI switch.
All in all, I usually don't allow applications, especially those with interactive interfaces, to store anything on internal storage. I don't use thumbnail caching, animations or audio and video previews, wherever possible.
If i consider necessary in the future, I will expand the internal storage, but, ussualy I already store anything I need on the external USB HDD and play it from it.

This is a bug that needs to be fixed, not help that I need. I used a Chromecast with GTV for about 3 months as nothing other than a YouTube streamer and the disk overflowed. This is a BUG REPORT. Send the report to someone to fix it.

Heya WayneD,
I appreciate you bringing up this issue! If you have the time, would you be willing to submit feedback via Google TV letting the engineering team know about the storage issue? I know some other users have also found some issues with phantom storage being used, and every bit of feedback is helpful!
Of course, you don't have to submit feedback, as I will pass this thread to them anyway.
Best regards,
Jeran

Thanks for the pointer to the feedback page. I'll also give that a try.

Thank you for doing that! Submitting feedback is the best way to let the engineering team know about issues, as well as posting on this forum! In the meantime, I'll go ahead and lock the thread. As always, feel free to make a new thread if you have any more questions or concerns.
Thank you for your help, djtetei!
Best regards,
Jeran
