Chromecast with Google TV HD problem with new LG smart TV

New LG Smart TV connected a new Chromecast w/Google TV HD.  Both TV and Chromecast have the latest software.  They both connect to wifi. The Chromecast is plugged into HDMI 2.  I can't turn on the TV with the Chromecast.  When I turn it on with the LG remote control, I can use the Chromecast to navigate.  Similarly, when I try to turn off the TV with the Chromecast, it goes blank and then comes up with a screen that says "HDMI 2 - no signal" and I have to turn it off with the LG remote.  Using the LG for on & off isn't the end of the world, but I'd like to control on and off wit the Chromecast.  I have a Sony TV, and the Chromecast HD for that works properly.

Suggestion appreciated.

Hey there msandman1943,

I apologize for the late response, thank you for your patience! Were you able to fix that Chromecast Voice Remote issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, as I can understand not wanting to use more than one remote if you don't have to. Just out of curiosity, are you able to change the remote to use IR instead of HDMI-CEC? That way, we can test if the remote communicates through IR properly, and it would point to and HDMI-CEC problem.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi - sorry, but even though I think I'm pretty adept at using technology, but maybe not TV technology.  So I don't know how to change from IR (which I assume is infrared) to HDMI-CC.  In fact I don't know what HDMI-CC is.  If you can enlighten me that would be great.

Hey there msandman1943,

No problem at all! Check out this article for more information on HDMI-CEC. In summary, CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) allows for HDMI devices to be controlled with one remote control. Here is how to change the Chromecast Voice Remote settings:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Remotes and Accessories.
  3. Select Set up remote buttons.
  4. Select the device, then select Set up buttons.
  5. From here, change each of the settings to IR or HDMI-CEC, respectively.

Give both of those options a try, and let me know if either of them work or not.

Thank you,
Jeran

Hi - I finally got to this. ON the LG, when I go to external devices, it offers WiFi or Bluetooth. On both, it say, "No devices connected." If I select WiFi, it looks for devices and doesn't find any. Same when I try to find a Bluetooth device.

It seems like we're at a dead end. The Chromecast Remote with Voice works perfectly on my Samsung but I still can't get to to turn on the LG, or turn it off. If the TV is turned on with the remote, the Chromecast remote will turn on streaming and turn it off, bu it doesn't turn the TV itself on or off. Any further suggestions would be welcome,

Hi msandman1943,

Thanks for the additional info. Have you already tried contacting LG regarding this? It looks like it's isolated on LG TV only.

Best,

Princess
