Chromecast with Google TV constantly disconnecting & reconnecting to Wifi

I have been a happy user of Chromecast for years. I was very excited when Google released the Google TV version with a UI & remote and have been impressed with the product overall, save for a single issue that renders the device completely unusable - namely, it constantly disconnects from WiFi. It then reconnects, or attempts to, and often tries several times before a success. Obviously this is frustrating. Obviously the most basic necessity for this type of device is that it reliably stays connected to the internet.

I've searched various forums online, including this one, and tried to troubleshoot it with no success. The most common thing I've heard is that the device has problems with mesh networks (which I do have), so I've disabled roaming with no success. I've messed around DHCP, router settings, DNS settings, device settings, factory resets, router resets etc. etc.

At this point, there are a few possibilities:

  1. This device is faulty in a way that is fairly common (judging by the number of similar posts across the internet)
  2. The device  (as manufactured) suffers from a fatal flaw that makes it unusable for my use case (which is nothing out of the ordinary)
  3. There is some setting or fix that is not obvious and that hasn't been well documented online

Wondering if anyone has had the same experience or knows what I'm missing here.

Ended up solving the issue with a factory reset on ISP modem HomeHub3000. It seems the Chromecast is fine. I'm not going to pretend I understand what happened or how this solved the problem.

Thanks!

I can really recommend to get the special power adapter with ethernet port, so that you can use the google tv "wired" towards your network.  For me the connection stability vastly improved when using wired instead of wireless.  It's a cheap accessory, but well worth it.

Thanks for the reply. I would love to do this, but unfortunately there is not a good way to get Ethernet to my TV without running cables all over the house. At the same time, it really shouldn't be necessary - I have a plenty fast 0.5 Gbps connection and solid WiFi coverage through my mesh network.

Do your mesh points perhaps have a UTP connection ?  Perhaps theres one closer to your tv and that might already help.

You could also test it our to just run one cable trough the house, and see if that solves all your problems, then at least you know it’s just a wifi speed / stability issue.

The closest node is about 15ft away and is UTP connected. I don't have this issue with any other devices including old school Chromecasts and Chromecast Ultras. I'm quite certain the network is fine and the coverage is more than sufficient. The Chromecast w/ GTV even shows full WiFi bars... and then proceeds to connect and reconnect 5 times in a row.

I'm starting the think the device is just broken.

yes if its that frequently, i also think theres something wrong with the unit.

if its software, you could factory reset and install again, if its hardware, then i’d let it be replaced or try out another one.
