If I ask my Google Home to watch a video from Netflix, Disney+, or any other linked service the Chromecast won't play the episode/movie. The Chromecast will load the app and go to the correct series but it will sit there at the series screen and require me to press the play button on my remote to start. Using my old Chromecast the video would start playing immediately.

Thanks for posting. Have you tried the suggested steps on the thread you've shared? If yes, how was it? You could try to command your Google Home to play videos from different supported apps aside from Netflix and Disney+. This is to isolate the issue.
If the issue persists, reset your Chromecast and Google Home, then try again.

I also tried from amazon prime and got the same behaviour. Tried to reset everything and the same thing still happens.

Thanks for the update. Could you try to use the Google Assistant on the Voice Remote and check if the same issue will persist?
