Hi guys! So I bought a chromecast with google tv yesterday and after an hour or so the wifi turned off by itself, when I went to the configuration tab it showed that the wifi was turned off, it has happen 2 times in less than 15 hours of use it’s pretty annoying.

any help would be much appreciated in order to fix this issue.

The only solution has been to turn on the wifi manually for the configuration tab.

Hey mate i am having the same issue. Disappointing for a new product. Happens about every 20 minutes while watching and will always be off when inactive

Hi dude I enabled the developers tab and then disabled the wifi optimization and it works fairly good now

thanks for the response. i have activated developer mode but can’t see wifi optimisation as an option

Go to Settings > System > Energy > Saver and set it to Never.

Doesn't work

I wouldn’t put this issue as solved, the problem started again, had to buy a dock in order to just plug it on an Ethernet cable

Hey there GalleguitoGamer,

One of your answers was selected as a solution, which automatically tags the thread as "Solved". Just out of curiosity, when the Wi-Fi would toggle on and off, were you connected to a 2.4GHz band or a 5GHz band? I've seen some reports in the past of Wi-Fi disabling itself on a 5GHz band, and it was resolved by changing the 5GHz Wi-Fi channel to a lower one, around 36-48. Also, some other users reported that by disabling the Self-Organizing Network (SON) setting on their router, that stopped the issue as well.

Let me know if that helps out!

Best regards,

Jeran

Is this is similar to Asus Smart connect(one ssid) then it doesn't matter. Tried three different devices, in three home with three different routers. CCwGTV still toggles wifi off, regardless if it's idle, or 100% active streaming. It isn't a router issue, it's a device/firmware issue. That needs to be understood an accepted moving forward.

None of these solutions work. I have three CCwGTV & four ONN 4k devices. Those do not toggle wifi off on their own. I have 6 months+ experience with them in the same household. Google needs to address this.

Google absolutely needs to address this. It is a device issue. Wifi turns off within seconds of turning it on.

Hey there,

Thank you everyone for your patience on this! I went ahead and talked to a higher tier of support about this issue, and what they suggest you try for now is to reboot your Chromecast with Google TV and your router together. After that, monitor the device to see if the same issues occur over the next couple of days. If the issue persists, it may be an issue that our engineering team will have to look into, and in that case, I would highly encourage you to submit feedback on this.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but if you had any other questions, please let me know.

Best regards,

Jeran

We have all done this already. Your engineering needs to look into it. It's a device issue.

Yes issue is still there there’s no real solution so far, it’s pretty frustrating specially because I haven’t receive updates fixing the issue, google needs to get to work

I did a lot of testing and couldn't come up with issue. I went and bought a new one today and it works perfectly. I personally have no doubt in my mind this is a hardware issue. Not a firmware issue, we all should pretty much have same firmware.

It even works well with the 2.4 and 5 having the same SSIS and enabling bandwidth steering, which is one of the "supposed fixes."

I'm sure a few people got lucky with some of the fixes, but you shouldn't have to turn the energy mode to off or IPv6 off for it to work. Those are excuses and not real fixes.

Like I said, in my opinion this is absolutely a hardware issue and people need to return them.

(Now 1 case I don't know about is using with mesh or Google routers, but on a standard type router like I have, it is a hardware issue with the CCwGTV.

Jeran,

I know you're dying to close this thread. It's okay. I figured it out. Google has a hardware problem with some of the Chromecast with Google TV. Not a firmware issue, a hardware issue.

You're welcome.

No charge.

mine still isn’t fixed all, improved but now fixed. i have just learned to live with it, ensure we keep this conversation up for google releasing a faulty product

The problem only happens in combination with mesh wifi systems. It is almost certain a driver related issue of the wifi chipset that needs to be addressed in the chromecast.

Also. As a workaround to the problem I created a wifi network only on 5GHz to connect the chromecast to. Since then it never disabled the wifi anymore.

Hard disagree. I have a single AP (unifi) and I've tried every one of these suggestions without success. Every time it happens the Crave app crashes but otherwise I just see the wifi notification pop up and I see a new DHCP request in my router logs. Every 10 min or so.

This problem is not fixed. It does not work at all with IPv6 and disconnect in seconds. ICMPv6 blocked it works 5-10min until reconnects to wifi. It is total impossible play anything from my local network samba or NFS shares. There is quite big packet loss because frequent WiFi reconnections.

It works totally fine with ethernet adapter but with WiFi Chromecast With Google TV is nightmare device. Dont recommend for anymore. Something is totally broken in driver or in hardware. Seems like designed badly.

IGMP and multicasting is enabled on my network. Also I have installed UPNP-service on my WiFi-router. ICMPv6 is blocked for Chromecast. Because with IPv6 activated with Chromecast just drops under second from WiFI after acquiring IPv6 address. When connected using ethernet there is no problem using IPv6. So Wifi works with IPv4 just several minutes.

I am recommending for people to use something else like NVIDIA Shield. Those work really great and has no broken networking.

Does anybody any luck with this or good resolutions with WiFi networking problems?

Waiting just fix for Chromecast problem or soon I will return the device to the store
