Chromecast with Lenovo tablet

I've connected Chromecast with Google TV to my TV. It works OK with the remote.

I've installed Google Home on my Lenovo tablet and paired it with the Chromecast device.

On the tablet, I can cast (the tablet display) to the TV via Chromecast and play Youtube music (without control).

Is this the limit of my control of Chromecast via the tablet, or am I missing something. Although the remote works OK, it's rather clunky and I'd much prefer a more user-friendly interface.

Agreed that you don't want to screen cast... So when you load YouTube music you don't see the cast icon in the top right ?  If not, check the Google plays tore for updates for your apps, as well as do a system update check.  You should not have to open Google home at any point to do this.

I am curious, would you not prefer to cast from the YouTube music app directly and not just the screen?  This way you can control with the media controls that will pop up , as well as with the app interface

You're right. The point I was making that the only actions I can get from Chromecast are to "Play music" and cast my tablet to the device.

And when your casting media controls don't appear on your tablet anywhere? I'm attaching some screen shots to give a visual reference... When I load YT music, I click the cast icon in the app, select a song, and click the song bar at the bottom on the screen, which brings up the "remote" that allows me to skip tracks, etc. Can only post one screenshot per post so will post three times

Certainly not as appears in your screenshots. Here's what I do and what I see ...

  • I open Google Home.
  • I see a screen called Home (my place) with Lounge (my lounge) and Lounge TV (my Chromecast device). Under the device name is "Play music" in blue. There's an 'action' button with 4 dots above the device name.
  • I click on Play music and the device/TV starts playing semi-random music.
  • I click on the action button and go to a control screen. This has a volume control (which doesn't work), a play/pause button, prev/next buttons, and a progress bar. There's a button at the bottom "Stop casting".

I *could* cast my screen and start Youtube, but that would mean my tablet was dedicated to showing these videos. I'd rather have contol of the chromecast device so it wasn't then dependent on the tablet.
