Chromecast with google TV turns TV on automaticaly

My 2 chromecasts are suddenly behaving in a strange way.

When the TV is turned off by the Chromecast remote, it suddenly turns on again automaticaly. Not right away, but after 10 minutes or so. I can turn it off again with the remote, but the CC turns on again after a while.

I have to unplug the CC from power to avoid this.

I have had both chromecasts for month and they have worked perfectly. But suddently they both have this same error. It sounds like a software bug in the latest release to me.

They are both plugget directly to power and not by the TV's USB.

Hi Jeran

I'm pretty sure that it's the DR TV app that's causing the trouble. It can turn on the Chromecast if the app is not specifically closed with "return" and "close app".
Maybe I should report an error in the DRTV app in google play?

I agree to this conclusion. It was the DR TV app causing my problems.

After going to the google TV home screen before turnkng off, I have had no more issues.

Just to support larsvilla: I have the exact same issue with my newly bought Chromecast with Google TV 4K. Television is a Samsung QE65Q7F.

Hey there larsvilla,

I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast is acting up and turning on the TV by itself! I'd be happy to help out, as this sounds like quite the nuisance. Does this issue occur when you turn off the Chromecast/TV while there is an app running on the Chromecast, or does this also occur in the Chromecast's Home Screen? Sometimes, apps can wake the Chromecast back up, and then turn on the TV via HDMI-CEC.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran

Thank you for your answer, and your questions 🙂

Now you point it out, I'm pretty sure you're right that it's an app causing the problem. And I think that it's the danish DRTV app, because it shows their navigation page at startup.

I had the assumption that Chromecast closed all apps when it was turned off on the off button on the remote control?! Is there a better way to make sure that the apps are closed ?

Best regards

Lars

Hey there larsvilla,

No problem at all! I'm pretty sure in this case, if you press the Home button on your Chromecast Voice Remote before you turn it off, the app should be closed. Turning off the Chromecast really just puts it in a sleep mode, so when you turn it "off" when an app is running, sometimes the apps can wake the TV up.

Let me know if you had any other questions!

Thank you,
Jeran

Hey there larsvilla,

That would be great! If you would like, you can do that by submitting feedback via the Google TV app. This should get the feedback sent to the appropriate place.

Best regards,

Jeran

Hey there jcrasmusssen,

Awesome, thank you for letting us know! If you don't mind, would you be able to submit feedback via Google TV as well to let Google know? It really does help out. In the meantime, unless there are any further questions from anyone, I'll go ahead and lock this thread in 24 hours.

Thank you,
Jeran
