I set my new chromecast with google tv to 4k resolution 24fps. It automatically resets itself to 1080p 60fps after a while. I've noticed after the tv being off for a few hours and turning back on. It's really annoying to have to constantly change back.

I'm having this same issue, my Chromecast is connected to the TV, then the audio goes to the receiver (Denon AVR 2313ci) via HDMI ARC. On the original post, where this thread was migrated from, one post mentioned that it was probably due to my receiver or HDMI cable might not be compatible with eARC. It'd be nice if this could be fixed in an update instead of me having to by new equipment.

Hey there, Captain Aaron,
I'm sorry to hear that you're running into this resolution issue! I actually ran into this issue when I got my Chromecast with Google TV as well. I'd be happy to help you out, let me just ask a few questions:
What I had to do on my TV is enable High Dynamic Range to allow the HDMI port to use 4k 60hz. I have also seen people with receivers need to activate a similar setting for their HDMI ports, this article may be related to your receiver.
Let me know if that helps out, and I look forward to your response! If you had any other questions or concerns, please let me know.
Best regards,
Jeran
