Chromecast won’t link with iphone

SueMc

We are in a location with no WiFi.  I have an iPhone 7 with plenty of data.  We bought a chromecast devise, hoping to use it to link our TV to my phone, using the phone’s mobile data (in the absence of WiFi) to stream eg Netflix etc.

The chromecast device is plugged into the back of the TV and into the mains.  I have google home on my phone, but we can’t make it work.  Various explanations on the internet are contradictory or hard to follow.  In settings WiFi on my phone is showing as Chromecast7852.v,

Hi SueMc,

Thanks for reaching out. You may use a mobile hotspot to set up and use your Chromecast. In order to complete the setup for Chromecast using a mobile hotspot, you will need to have two devices. One to behave as the router (one with Hotspot enabled) and the other as the setup device. This is because most devices won’t allow both Wi-Fi and mobile hotspot to work at the same time, so a second mobile device is needed to complete the steps to setup Chromecast using the Google Home app.

Note: It may fail to connect as a hotspot isn’t recommended to use.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer

Thanks for your reply.
Is it possible for you to talk me through this in a bit more detail please?
We have a chromecast device bought from Argos which we plugged into the mains and into the hdmi socket of the TV.  We had my mobile Iphone7 with mobile data.  Are you saying we need 2 mobile phone plus the chromecast device?
If so, what would we do on the two mobiles to make it work?

Many thanks

Sue

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to us. Yes, you have to use two different mobile devices to set up your Chromecast. Please see the detailed steps below:

  1. Turn on the Wi-Fi hotspot on the first phone.
  2. Connect the second phone to the Wi-Fi hotspot on the first phone.
  3. You can then use that second phone to set up your Chromecast and connect it to the Wi-Fi hotspot on the first phone.
  4. Once the Chromecast is set up, the hotspot must be always on in the first phone for you to be able to cast video content from supported Chromecast-enabled apps.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer

thanks for asking.  I’m not in the location without WiFi where I want to use Chromecast with the data from my mobile phone, at the moment …. So I haven’t had chance to try it out.

I’m still not quite sure I understand what to do using 2 mobile phones.  The bit where you connect one phone to the other’s ‘WiFi hotspot’ - how do you actually do that please?

Thanks again

Sue

Hi SueMc,

Sorry for the late response. How's it going? Did you manage to connect your Chromecast using your mobile hotspot? If you haven't yet, please follow through the instructions provided above.

Thanks,

Jennifer
