Chromecast

I'm finding that after a few minutes of casting Youtube to my tv using chromecast it cuts off.  Iv had my Chromecast for year's and it never had this problem. Movies, videos, and music work fine but when it comes to YouTube it cuts off. I'd this a YouTube problem or Chromecast?

Hi Knight,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community.

A few questions — when did the issue start? How long does it take before it stops casting? Did the video buffer or pixelate before it stopped casting?

Give these steps a try:

  • Reboot the Chromecast, router, and casting device.
  • Play other videos and try other supported apps.
  • Clear the data and/or cache of the YouTube app.
  • Uninstall and reinstall the YouTube app.
  • Disable and re-enable Automatic date and time and Automatic time zone.
  • Check for system updates on the mobile device.
  • Try to cast from another mobile device.
  • Perform a factory reset on your Chromecast.

Note: If the issue occurs in just one application, this could be an application-specific issue that would be best addressed by the application developer. You may contact YouTube for additional help.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi, thanks for the info.

I have not tried the steps yet but I will do.

When I cast YouTube from my phone it casts for 3/4 mins but I see it only stays on until my phone locks. This never use to happen at all. This started about 4weeks ago.

I'm using Android S10 and S8. They both work fine with other apps, but when it comes to YouTube it just doesn't stay on for long unless my phone is on open on theYouTube app.

Hi. I think clearing cache and data from the YouTube app done the trick.

Great job Jennifer 👊🏽 thank you very much.

Hi. Actually it's still doing the same thing. It worked last night as my phone was locked and not on YouTube. YouTube was still playing for more than an hour.

Hey Knight,

Sorry for the delayed response. Have you tried the other steps listed above aside from clearing cache and data on the YouTube app? If yes, how was it? Also, if the issue is only happening with the YouTube app, I would suggest you contact YouTube to further check this in their end.

Thanks,

Jennifer
