Is it possible to remove a device if you no longer have it? I gave an older Chromecast to my brother and am now trying to remove it from my home.

Sure, try these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Rooms and groups.
  4. Tap the room the device was assigned to.
  5. Tap the device.
  6. Tap Remove device.
If those steps don't work, try these steps:
  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap your photo or initials at the top right.
  3. Tap Assistant settings.
  4. Tap Devices.
  5. Tap the Chromecast.
  6. Tap Unlink this device.

Will factory reset also help to remove the device from a remote area or new location ?

It depends on the device. More details in this help centre article.
