Color format resets

skane
Community Member

Hello,

The color format is set to RGB 8-bit. When I change it to 4:2:2 12-bit, which is the only choice available, it reverts to RGB 8-bit when I turn off and then turn on the Chromecast TV again.

This problem started with the newest update. Before It i had more color format setting and the settings didnt change.

Hey there skane,

I'n sorry to hear that your Chromecast with Google TV settings are acting up. This can be tricky to troubleshoot on your own, so I'd be happy to help you look into it. First, I would make sure that the color settings on the TV itself are what you want. Then, I would make sure that your Chromecast's firmware is still up-to-date, as more updates might have rolled out. Finally, make sure that the Chromecast is powered properly by a wall outlet, and not via USB on the TV.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hello,

I understand that it is difficult to investigate. I have a samsung UE65JS9500.
All settings and updates are correct. Everything worked fine until the last chromecast update when they upgraded to android 12. The reset to the RGB 8 bit color format does not happen every time I restart the TV. It seems a bit random. The question is whether the Chromecast really changes the color format or if it just shows the wrong setting in the menu.

Hey there skane,

That is interesting that it doesn't occur every time, leading me to believe there is most likely a bug that would need to be resolved. If you don't mind, would you be able to re-create the issue, then submit feedback via Google TV? That way, if there are any error logs generated by the Chromecast, they will be sent to the Chromecast Engineering team.

I appreciate your help on this, and if you have any other questions, please let me know.

Thank you,
Jeran

Hi,

How do i submit feedback from the google TV? I can check the color format setting everytime I start google TV and send feedback when it has reverted back to RGB 8 bit.

Hiya skane,

Here are the two ways to submit feedback through Google TV:

On a Google TV device

  1. On your remote, press the Google Assistant Assistant or Microphone Click or touch microphone to record sound on tours button.
  2. Say, "Send feedback."
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

In the Google TV app

  1. Open the Google TV app .
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture.
  3. Tap Help & feedback and then Send feedback.
  4. Describe the issue.
    • The more information you include, the more it helps our team.
  5. At the top right, tap Send Send.

Again, I really appreciate you doing this. All feedback received by Google regarding issues is very helpful. Let me know if you had any other questions!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi,

I have sent feedback just now when it was reverted back to RGB 8 bit. Can you see if you got the information needed?

Hey there skane,

Awesome, I appreciate you doing that! The feedback is sent directly to the engineering department, and unfortunately I don't have access to that tool. Rest assured, the logs of the device would have been sent along with the feedback, so they should be able to look into this. In the meantime, did you have any other questions or concerns?

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi,

When I sent feedback on the chromecast TV, I couldn't write any text to explain the problem. Do they still understand what the problem is?

Hey there skane,

Usually when you submit feedback, it allows you to describe the issue. They should still be able to look at the device logs for any errors being thrown. However, if you'd like to be safe, try re-creating the issue again and submitting feedback using the second method.

Thank you for your patience on this, I appreciate it!

Best regards,

Jeran
