Connecting Chromecast

Dear Friends,

I can't get my Chromecast to work. It did work last year on two TVs until we had a fire and were out of our town home for a full year. All the gear is the same.

Modem/router CenturyLinkC1100T

I use the Google Home app to do the setup.

I see the code N9E6 in the screen and then proceed. Thins seem to go fine until it asks me for a password.

I think the problem might be is using the wrong password. I tried different ones but can't connect.

I have my Google password, My wife's username and password, since the internet is under her name, there is also the Admin Username and Admin Password which is written on the Modem. Which one do I use?

If I know which password I was supposed to be using, then I can explore some of the other suggestions like rebooting.

Thanks for your help. I've check the forum for answers but I'm stuck. This is very frustrating.

Hey there djbobm1,

I'm sorry to hear you ran into a road-block while setting up your device. I'd be happy to help you out, though! Now, if you're setting up the Chromecast, make sure your Google account is logged into the Google Home app, as well as make sure the Chromecast and the device with the Google Home app are on the same Wi-Fi network. Then, when you go to add the new device, it should work just fine.

Alternatively, you can connect to the Chromecast manually by connect to your Chromecast’s service set identifier (SSID).

  1. Open your phone’s Settings app > tap Wi-Fi > connect to the Chromecast SSID.
  2. Open the Google Home app and try to set up your device again.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran
