Disable Google TV in new Chromecast

I have a Pixel 4a running Android 12, purchased a Chromecast with Google TV to enjoy 4K content with my new 4K TV. Unfortunately my experience with the Google TV function of the Chromecast is similar to smart TVs with built-in apps, annoying to use with the Cast feature. When I try to cast from the Netflix or Youtube apps, Google TV will prompt me to choose an account/profile instead of just launching the cast app so I can choose my content to stream.

Is there a way to disable the Google TV functionality so I can use my Chromecast with Google TV as a simple Chromecast 4K stream device, like traditional Chromecast devices?

Hey there darthgizm0,

Of course! It would be pretty nice if you could change video and audio settings based on whether you're casting, or watching from an app on the Chromecast itself. If you have the time, I'd recommend you submit feedback via Google TV to let Google know, as they're always looking for feedback on both the Chromecast and Google TV itself.

If you had any other questions or concerns, I'd be happy to address them!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hey there darthgizm0,

I apologize about the late response, thank you for being patient on this! At this point in time, Google TV is baked into the Chromecast with Google TV, and there isn't a way to separate them out, unfortunately. The best way I can imagine is to enable Apps only mode to disable a good chunk of Google TV features. I'm sorry there isn't a better way than that at this point in time.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jeran

Apps only mode does make the Google TV experience more responsive, though I would like the 4k option only with casting and not with apps. Thanks for your help
