Does not play sound

Staying at another place.  Cannot communicate to Google Home App on Setup.

Set up with a Samsung, does not play sound on most streaming services.  It does for some cartoons, but other shows, no sound.  Applies for Netflix, Disney+, etc.  Any suggestions?

Thx

What TV model do you have?

I have the same issue, no sound with Bluetooth headphones. Applies for Netflix and Disney plus. Netflix streaming stutters constantly on top of that. The turning off of the surround sound trick worked for the apple TV app. But not for the rest. Awful experience with this chromecast up until now. Terrible.  I have seen users complaining about this same issue for about a year now and Google just has not been able to solve it or they just don't care!!! It's the same thing with all other services that are not their priority like Wear OS for example 🙄 and people still wonder why people keep preferring apple ... Well it's because over there stuff actually work!!

If you are both using an audio equipment compatible with multichannel surround sound, you should not enable surround sound option in Chromecast sound settings.

From time to time reboot the Chromecast device (unplug it from the main power grid for about 5 minutes) to allow the system to integrate the updates and reset hardware components.

Yes,  I tried this. But other apps' sound stopped working when I disabled the surround sound,  so I have to keep enabling and disabling this option depending on what apps I am using... the main points are, first, thatall this "tricks" should be a temporary solution, we should not be having to resort to tricks for a device to "kinda work properly". Secondly,  this is not a new problem or an isolated issue. I've seen posts all around older than a year ago complaining about the same thing and apparently google just don't care.

Yes, you shouldn't do tricks, but you also have to understand that if your TV doesn't support Dolby Digital Plus decoding, like most of online movie streaming applications use for surround sound delivery, you will not be able to hear sound of you keep surround sound enabled on Chromecast.

Also, if you don't have a surround sound capable device you should set your streaming applications to not send surround sound to your TV.

I also use Chromecast with Google TV, for about 7 months, and I can tell you that I didn't have any issues with it at all in my multimedia configuration. It was never turned off, except for when I install system updates.

My Chromecast with Google TV is setup to route the audio signal to an audio DAC, via a powered USB-C hub, and the video signal is passed through a HDMI switch with built-in audio extractor (digital optical and digital coaxial output).

But my tv does support dolby sound, I don't think it has anything to do with the tv, it's a bug on the chromecast software. I have never needed to do anything like what you mentioned with an apple tv. OK the apple tv has other bugs of its own but not with Bluetooth headphones, sound,  etc.

When you say that your TV support Dolby sound, you are referring to the Dolby Digital Plus decoding capability or passtrough?

The lack of sound output is occurring only when using Bluetooth headphones or it is occurring when you use the TV speakers as well?

To be honest,  I have no idea.  I just checked and there's the option for dolby digital + and says that it only works via ARC (HDMI) to an external compatible device. I'm guessing that's what you call passthrough... It happens only with the headphones, funny thing is sometimes they work for a while but then they don't anymore.  I have tried several different apple and Samsung headphones and it's the same.

Where do you have the router installed?

What distance do you have between the router and the Chromecast device?

The router is a single band or dual band router?

Which bandwidth is your Chromecast connected to?

The questions above deal with the fact that Bluetooth works on 2.4 GHz bandwidth, which may interfere with the 2.4 GHz bandwidth of the router.

As for Dolby Digital sound support, the fact that it says it works only via HDMI ARC, it means that the TV only support Dolby Digital Plus passtrough, without the capability to decode internally, because it does not have a Dolby Digital Plus decoder built-in.

So, if you want to use surround sound, like Dolby Digital Plus on Netflix or other streaming applications, you net an AV receiver or a soundbar, capable to decode Dolby Digital Plus via HDMI ARC.
