Error when casting Meta Oculus Quest 2 to Vizio TV using the Built-In Chromecast

djscene

I have a new 70" Vizio TV that has built-in Chromecast. When I send a cast from Meta Oculus Quest 2 my TV recognizes the cast and looks like its starts to load on the TV screen. Shortly after the screen goes completely black and the Quest 2 says that was an "unknown streaming error".

Both devices are Chromecast compatible

Both devices are connected to the same WiFi network

I've powered down both devices and switched off WiFi

I've rebooted my wireless router

Issue persists.

Please advise. Thanks

I have the same problem. I can cast to the tv with different devices except the oculus. The oculus can cast to my 65 inch Vizio upstairs. The issues seems to be the software in the new vizio 70

inch TV. Very frustrating since this is a new tv.

Absolutely. The Quest 2 has no issues conne ting to other Chromecast devices, but for some reason my new Vizio 70” gives me an error over and over again.

additional info:

Vizio 70” Model: M700Q7-J03

Vizio Firmware: 1.520.24.2-2

Well after reading other forums with the same issue, it seems it’s a Quest 2 error. It seems it doesn’t recognize the new software for chrome cast. Very frustrating.

The Vizio TVs recognize the Quest 2 and the Quest 2 screen it says “casting request sent”. Whatever is being sent back from Vizio TV to the Quest 2 is either 1) not being recognized by the Quest or 2) output is not being processed correctly by the Vizio TVs .

I have a stand-alone Chromecast unit arriving this week. I’m going to plug in into Vizio TVs. If Quest 2 connects to the “NOT built in Chromecast”… at that point we’ll know it’s an issue with Chromecast  “built-in” Vizio feature.

Hey there djscene,

I'm just checking up on this thread, and I'm really sorry to hear that your Chromecast built-in and your Oculus Quest 2 aren't playing nicely. Were you able to test this on your new Chromecast dongle yet? I'm curious to see if the issue is isolated to the Chromecast built-in as well. If that is the case, you may need to reach out to Vizio Support, as Chromecast built-in is open-source software and Vizio would have modified the code in some way.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jeran

I purchased a Chromecast HD, plugged it into my Vizio 70” TV with “built-in Chromecast” and it connected exactly how it is supposed to with the external Chromecast. The built-in Chromecast maintains the same errors.

In addition, I went as far as purchasing a new eero mesh internet router to troubleshoot and make sure it’s not “a router issue”. Vizio TV and Quest 2 are both connected to the same wifi. Vizio TV still says there is an error connecting thru “built-in Chromecast” when casting from the Meta Quest 2.

Hey there djscene,

In this case, it does sound like the issue is isolated to Vizio's Chromecast built-in. If you can, make sure the Vizio TV is up-to-date on its firmware and also factory reset it. If the problem persists, go ahead and reach out to Vizio Support to see if they are aware of any issues on their end.

One of the very first things I did in this process was factory reset Vizio TV and update the firmware. I’m currently running the latest available Vizio firmware.

Vizio Model: M43Q6M-K04

Firmware: 1.520.24.2-2

I just chatted with Vizio customer support and their response was:

*Because YouTube is casting to the tv then it would be an issue with the device manufacturer, I would reccomend contacting meta for further assistance with that.*

I’m able to cast directly to “Built-in Chromecast” on my Vizio TV. Just not able to cast the Meta Quest 2.

Hey there djscene,

Thank you for letting us know what Vizio said! It's a shame they aren't aware of any issues. Do you plan to reach out to Meta regarding this issue? I'm curious to see if they are aware of anything.

Best regards,
Jeran

I’m trying to get a direct response from Meta so it can be added to this thread. Would you happen to have contact info for Chromecast / Meta ?

Hey there djscene,

Of course! Here is how to get a hold of Chromecast Support, you'll just need to go through the initial prompts, then it will give you the contact info. Here is how to get a hold of Meta Support.

I hope that helps!

Thank you,

There are several other threads about this specific issue(vizio x oculus )on the meta support forum.  Meta is aware of the issue and is currently investigating although it’s been almost a year and a half. Started happening subsequently after one of the meta updates.
