Hi, I have a number of chrome cast devices (2 TV's and 1 Speaker) around my house, I sue them all the time from my phone and wifes phone and laptop etc. But recently my desktop PC, when I click "cast" from Googlechrome, it just always says "looking for devices.... no devices found".

I've tried turning off and on the PC, the devices. notrhing.
Again, everything else, phones, laptops all working just fine with all my devices. Just the PC chrome not working.

Firstly, thanks for mentioning the 'Cast' word as I had been looking for a cast icon (I'm sure there was one previously) but now its in Three dot menu / Cast..

Mine is working fine - I can see all of my 10 cast-enabled devices.. so at lease we know its working for some.

I have the same problem. Installed Chromecast on my Samsung TV, downloaded Google Home. Go to my laptop, open Paramount Plus, open a show. I see the cast icon on the top right. I click on that, and i get a message that says Cast www.paramountplus.com.

Then it says No devices found, and I count see the show from my laptop to my tv. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am stumped!

No problem, I'd be happy to help out, I'll just need to ask you some questions about your set-up:

  • What Operating System are you using?
  • Were you able to cast from that desktop previously?
  • How far is the device from the router?
  • Do you have a dual-band router?

First, I'd make sure that Google Chrome is up-to-date, here are the steps for that:

  1. Go to the Google Chrome menu (three dots at the top right part of the screen) and click Help.
  2. Click About Google Chrome.
  3. Click Check for updates.

Then, make sure both the desktop and the Chromecast are connected to the same network band. You listed that you have a Gen 1 Chromecast, so connect both devices to the 2.4GHz band.

Finally, disconnect from Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) or proxy servers. Chromecast devices can't communicate with your devices over these networks. Also ensure that the firewall and/or antivirus software are up-to-date and aren’t blocking connections to the Chromecast device.

Let me know if that helps! If not, we can check a few more things.

Best regards,

Jeran
