Google Home / Apple Music

Hi - I’m trying to cast Apple Music Chrome cast using Google Home on an Ipad I can connect and play music Google Home chooses and skip tune etc but I can’t select a song myself - Is this possible?

It connects ok and allows me to pick a specific song on Spotify but for some reason I can’t on Apple Music.

If I open Apple Music App and play a song it plays through my IPad even although I’m casting and playing another song on the chromecast!

Any help appreciated!

Phil

Hi Rhuari,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you ― let’s check this out.

To know more about your concern, are you trying to cast Apple Music from your iPad to your TV with a Chromecast dongle or a Chromecast with Google TV? Are all your devices on the same WiFi network? You also mentioned that Casting specific songs via Spotify to your Chromecast worked, does it also work with YouTube and other music streaming services?

Tell me more about it.

Regards,

Dan

Hi Dan

Thanks for looking into this it’s much appreciated

I’m trying to cast from my IPad to a Chromecast Audio which I have attached to my amplifier. I have set up Google Home and have as an app on my IPad. I can use Spotify and either select it as the main provider of my music in Google Home or select the Chromecast straight out of Spotify. If I use Google Home to connect it plays a random song initially which I can then tap on the song image which then Opens Spotify and I can select any song I wish. If I then change the provider in home to Apple Music , Google Home plays a random song - If I touch the song icon it pulses slightly but does nothing - I can skip to the next track on the random track listing but that’s it. I tried opening the Apple Music app separately and selecting a track - it then plays this track on my IPad and continues to play the random track on the Chromecast (i.e. on my amp). So Apple Music is playing two songs at once!

I tried using You Tube as the provider and got the same thing as Apple Music

Any ideas greatly appreciated - to be clear I’d just like to stream music via Apple Music to my amplifier via the Chromecast Audio but select a track not a random selection.

Hey there,

Check out this guide. This will answer some of our questions.

Now, a direct answer is, the Chromecast Audio can be connected to any amplifier, receiver, or active speaker. If your amplifier or speaker has an AUX (3.5mm jack) connector, you can use the included AUX cable. Try to follow the guide above on how to set it up with an amplifier. Also, to set your expectations, if the setup was successful and still the same behavior, then this must already be a device specific issue in which compatibility is concerned. Could you try casting from your mobile device to your Chromecast Audio without the amplifier if it casts. Try to cast other music platforms, too.

Tell me how it goes.

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan

Thanks for this - the Chromecast audio is connected to the amplifier and is playing music perfectly. The only problem i have is with Apple Music. I cannot select a song specifically or open the Apple Music app via Google Home. I can do this with Spotify - Is there any solution for this?

Hi Dan

I’m still having the Sam issues - to answer your previous question, I have never ben able to open Apple Music and play a specific track, I can only play random tracks when I play music in Google Chrome.

The issue is not with the hardware, the Chromecast Audio works absolutely fine — the problem seems to be functionality between Apple Music and Google Home. Spotify works fine, Apple Music does not.

Hi Rhuari,

May I know what iOS version your iPad has? I really wanted to narrow this down since Spotify and other music platforms work, Chromecast Audio is working absolutely fine, just not Apple Music. I also wanted to know if are you playing music via the Apple Music app or through the Apple Music on your Google Chrome browser?

Keep me posted.

Best,

Dan

I have the same problem on android. Via Google home I can select the audio chromecast and it randomly plays a song via apple music. But in the app whenever select a song nothing happens.

It worked perfectly for years bit stopped doing so a month or two ago.

Hi there,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you ― to be clear, using your Google Home app, you’re trying to play a specific song from Apple Music to your Chromecast Audio, which is linked to an amplifier, right? May I know what is the response/message when you're trying to play music? Was it working before? Also, do you have an Apple Music subscription? Kindly reboot your Chromecast Audio for about 2 minutes.

Click this link for more detailed information and troubleshooting: Link your music services and set your default service.

Keep me posted.

Hi Dan

I have a subscription to Apple Music and have tried rebooting the Chromecast. You are correct, I am trying too play a specific song on Apple Music via Chromecast Audio on my amplifier. It has never worked before. I don’t get a response, when I select play music on the Google Home app it plays a random song, if i click on that songs thumbnail the thumbnail it pulses to show i have touched it but does not open Apple Music, if I tried the same thing with Spotify when I touch the thumbnail Spotify opens thus allowing me to select a song.

thanks for your help!

Hi Dan

The Chromecast Audio is connecting perfectly to the amplifier. I can play Spotify through it and it sounds great. I can open the Spotify App through Google Home and select a track and it plays no problem through my amp via Google Home and Chromecast Audio. The problem I have is when I set the provider on Google Home to Apple Music I cannot do the same. When I press play music in Google Home it selects a random track from Apple Music and plays this - I want to open the app (Apple Music) via Google Home and play a specific track i select.

Thanks again for any help

Did you ever get a fix for this? I have the SAME issue. I can play anything on I want on my nest points/speakers, but Apple only plays random songs. In fact, when Apple Music is the choice, the Google Home system will play random songs on the speakers, while apple music will play what I want on my phone. There's no way to get the Apple Music songs I choose on my phone to play through the Google Home system!

I have the exact same problem. Very annoying.

I have read this thread, which seems to go in circles.  The problem has been very clearly defined.  Is there a solution?

My very annoying quick fix is to mirror all the audio of my phone to the chromecast and setting it to vibrate only mode. But that is no solution for a longer period.

Thanks for the reply.  Going by the lack of replies from the resident experts I can only assume it cannot be done, which is pretty poor.  I have been able to get assistant working OK, except that you can't really get all the music selection options as you would on screen.
