Google TV Chromecast unable to cast from any app

Longtime user and fan of the Chromecast products, and I just decided to upgrade to the new Google TV version. I have set it up and it's working great in every aspect, except 90% of the time I can't cast from any supported apps on my phone to the Chromecast (isn't that the whole point of a Chromecast?) 

In my apps I select the cast button, and select the Chromecast, and I get stuck on the connecting screen. It just refuses to connect. Every once in a while it will manage to open the app on the TV but will rarely if ever actually let me play the video I was hoping to watch. The only reliable way is by using the remote to navigate to it on the TV, but the whole reason I buy a Chromecast is that it's way more reliable at casting than anything else. Any tips or support? If not I'll probably return it in a week or so because it's a piece of garbage.

Thanks for reaching out to the Chromecast Community forum and I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue casting to your Chromecast with Google TV (HD). Let's sort this out.

 

A few questions: are you getting any messages when casting aside from getting stuck in the connecting screen? How far are you when casting to your TV? What mobile device are you using for casting? 

 

Give these steps a try:

 

  1. Check proximity of the TV to the casting device (phone, tablet, or computer), and Wi-Fi router. Ideally, the devices should be less than 15 to 20 feet (4 to 6 meters) apart from each other, with one or no walls in between.
  2. Reboot the Chromecast with Google TV (HD), mobile device, and router.
  3. Disconnect and reconnect the mobile device from the Wi-Fi network.
  4. Check if your mobile phone has a power saving setting. If it's enabled, disable it.
  5. Factory reset your Chromecast with Google TV (HD).
