Google TVs on a Speaker Group: Can't play any music because "YouTube is not installed at the moment"

Hellooo 😊

PREAMBLE

This issue has been discussed before on a forum (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Cannot-cast-youtube-youtube-music-to-sp...) but it's been locked down and I'd like to post it again because I haven't heard back after submitting a ticket a while ago. This problem has been an issue for maybe year or more.

ISSUE

My speaker group works perfectly with a nest hub, a nest Mini, and nest speakers. But when add I either of my Google TVs to it, and ask for/cast music, Google responds with "Sorry, YouTube isn't installed at the moment." And the music does not play.

I troubleshooted with a Google rep for about an hour and he said it was strange indeed. I've done all kinds of resets and restarts and YouTube music on my Google TVs doesn't seem to have a solution.

So, none of my music plays on my best amazing speakers from my tvs. I'm so sad! I love love Google home. And would absolutely adore sound playing again on my Google tvs.

TEMPORARY WORKAROUND

FOR ANYONE WHO MAY BE READING THIS, I do have a little WORKAROUND.  If I remove Google TV from my speaker group, and then ask Google/cast for music, the speaker group works perfectly.  THEN, if I ADD the Google TV to the speaker group WHILE the music is playing, it works perfectly and plays on the speakers group until the music is stopped.  But, you'll have to redo this EVERY time you want play music with the Google tv on the speaker group, LOL.  (I use this work around only when it's absolutely necessary because I find it lengthy.)

END

Anyhow! Thank you so much to whomever responds to this and I look forward to hopefully getting this fixed so music is awesome again.

Peace.

same issue here but with Android TV (shield). it's been happening for a while now intermittently

I tried casting from youtube music (pc and android) and it will connect but not start (song shows 0:00 - 0:00 as time played)

funny enough, i tried casting with spotify and that works, so not sure if its a casting issue or a youtube issue...

Nic, thanks for adding to this thread.

Ya, same!  Funny, Spotify works for me too.

Peace.

Hey there Jake, Thanks for the reply 😃

Im not sure that article is the same issue.  It's about playing YouTube videos and my issue is YouTube music on a speaker group with Google TV's. Does that make sense?

Thankya! Peace.

Brandon.

Hey there,

Sorry for the delayed reply, and for the wrong article. I wanted to check in with you, as I found another article that has more details on playing music through your speakers/display. Please let me know if that helps, or if you have any questions from here.

Best regards,

Hey there Jake,

Thanks for the reply. I think the issue is not so much user error as a problem with the system. I think maybe I'll just switch from YouTube music to spotify. Cuz Spotify works just fine. And it seems like this issue is a little bit too difficult to resolve. Probably something deep in the code huh!

Take care.

Hey Brandon4,

Thank you for the info that Spotify works fine and isolating this as a YouTube Music issue. It would help a lot if you could contact YouTube to gain more information and troubleshooting steps and tell us how it goes.

Thanks,

Dan
