Google tv remote, input change not working

Yez
Community Member

The remote works fine with volume, mute and turn on/off.

The input button opens the input selection in a sidebar but I can't change. If I move up or down it's only reacting on the Google TV page I'm on.

I have a Phillips TV

Hi, do you also have a Phillips Android TV?

  • No Phillips Android. I have an LG. Many issues with the CC remote.
Last night I rebooted my router, unplugged chromecast.
Plugged CC back in via wall plug.
Seems to be working. Time will tell.

Alright, can't imagine the router is essential in this case. I tried restart CC, maybe I should try disconnect it and also change HDMI port.

I'll get back if any positive result

Hey there Yez,

No problem at all, we can leave it open. One thing I recommend that you try is changing the remote to IR instead of HDMI-CEC in the Google TV settings, and see if that makes a difference.

Thank you,
Jeran

Thanks

I've tried both CEC and all 10 IR methods with no luck.

The input button on the remote works fine but I can't change the source only view it. If I click up or down it only change what's in Google TVs content (like settings, where I usually is when I'm trying to set it up)

Hey there Yez,

In this case, the Chromecast may need an update to interact better with your particular model of Phillips TV. In the past, my Vizio TV had the same issue and was later fixed in an update. If you have the time, would you submit feedback via Google TV to let Google know?

Best regards,

Jeran

I'll do that right away and hope it'll happen. Thanks

Hiya Yez,

Thank you, it really does help out! In the meantime, did you have any other questions or concerns we can address?

Best regards,
Jeran

Not really, I'm generally very happy with Google TV & remote except from that one issue. It's very annoying because I often change input source, typically PS or Xbox, and if I have them running in the background while using Google TV there's no way back without using the ordinary TV remote.

Hey there Yez,

That is totally understandable, I'm glad to hear that the device is good aside from this issue. The only other alternative at the moment is to use the Chromecast Virtual Remote that's built into the Google Home app. Feel free to check out the link for more details on that.

I look forward to hearing from you, and if you had any other questions, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll go ahead and lock the thread in 24 hours.

Thank you,
Jeran

The remote in Google TV app and Home app does not support volume control and there are no input/source control. So it's even worse than the physical remote.

Please leave this post open. It's a pending problem and there are still no solution.

I don't know why you are so eager to close this thread?

Hey there Yez,

I can leave this thread open. People are more than welcome to post their workarounds if they so desire, however, this is something that may need to be fixed in a future firmware update, either by Google or Phillips. The more feedback Google receives regarding this issue, the more likely they are to prioritize it.

Thank you,
Jeran

Oh sorry, thought you were in a process of shutting it down 😄

The feedback session went fine, unfortunately I won't get a reply or follow-up. But I'll check if there's any updates now and then.

Thanks Jeran

Hey there Yez,

No problem at all! I'm glad to hear that it went well. The feedback really does help Google out when it comes to compatibility issues. Feel free to reply to this thread if you learn anything new, or if an update resolves this issue.

Best regards,

Jeran

@Yez

Good morning Yez,

I'm having the exact same issue here, also with a Philips TV.

I just checked both my CC and TV, I'm up to date.

Did you have any information back yet ?

Thanks for your reply

Hi Djodj

Okay, so you have the same annoying issue.

I will recommend you to make a feedback just like Jeran instructed earlier in this thread. I think the chance of the devs looking into it is bigger if they receive the feedback from more users.

Unfortunately we won't get any reply on the feedback, we can only keep an eye out for updates (set it to automatically updates)

However, so far there have been no update but I hope it'll happen soon.
