I have tested with 5 different chromecast (1080p rounded one), configured it with home app, enabled guest mode, and nothing, no one can connect to the chromecast outside the wifi. Tried on 4g with xiaomi, samsung, ihpone and nothing, no matter if i do enter the pin manualy or not, not connecting.
Maybe is some newest firmware bug? can anyone confirm? Thank you.
The chromecast itself is online and i can use it on the same wifi. But dont show any on screen pin and dont work on Guests phones outside my wifi.
Im sure this worked some 2 years ago, ive using this with no problems, with android and ios guests.
suddenly this is not working anymore.

Hey there Javier Ortiz Villar,
I'm so sorry for the late response, but I wanted to hop in here to see how we could help. I understand that guest mode issues with the chromecast can be frustrating, but I'm happy to look into this for you.

There are a few things that I would suggest.
First off, have you tried completely re-doing the Guest Mode set up?

Secondly, I want to note that Not all iOS apps are currently supported with Guest mode. It's up to the iOS developer to implement Guest mode support into their app. If the customer is using an iOS 11 device and Guest mode is not working with a particular iOS app, it's likely the app developer hasn't implemented the functionality yet.

At the moment, the only apps I could find iOS Guest Mode functionality with is HBO Go and Google Play Music (which is now depreciated...)

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns as I'm happy to continue helping.

Best regards,

Hey there JavierOrtiz,

Looks like there is still some unanswered questions from the previous thread, let me go ahead and double-check them to make sure.

  • What make and model of TV do you have?
  • Are you able to try setting it up on another TV?
  • What's the firmware version on your Chromecast models?
  • What version of Google Home are you running?
  • Does the Guest Mode PIN show up on the Chromecast's backdrop?

We can look deeper into where the root of the problem is after you answer those questions, since you already confirmed you tried multiple casting devices, we can rule that out.

I look forward to your response, and I appreciate your patience!

Best regards,

Jeran

  • What make and model of TV do you have? TV samsung hg43et690ux, tried aAsus vx239h pc monitor too, and a Lg oled bx65, same issue.
  • Are you able to try setting it up on another TV? done, same issue.
  • What's the firmware version on your Chromecast models? firmware version: 1.49.250946 same on all chromecast devices.
  • What version of Google Home are you running? 2.44.1.8
  • Does the Guest Mode PIN show up on the Chromecast's backdrop? No, wont show.

    best regards,

Hey there,

Go ahead and give these steps a try, these steps are coming from the Guest Mode article, in the section Troubleshoot when the device isn't found:

If you want to cast to your host’s device, but the Cast button never shows up or “Nearby device” never shows up when you tap the Cast button, check that you’ve allowed Google to scan local networks:

  • On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app.
  • Tap Google and then Device connections and then Cast options and then Guest mode.
  • Tap OK to allow Google to scan your network information and find nearby devices to cast to. Note: Once Guest mode is turned on, it will be active for 2 hours, then automatically turn off.

Let me know what happens with that, I look forward to your response!

Thank you,

Jeran

Hi, in my android 11 devices this setting was already on, i disabled and re enabled just to be sure and same issue.

it always showed "nearby device" and ask for a pin, but pin wont show up on screen and not auto sync with infrasounds.

Hey there! Just to double-check, what model of Chromecast do you have? For example, the new Chromecast with Google TV does not have the ability to use Guest Mode. I want to make sure that we aren't trying to troubleshoot for a feature that does not exist!

Best regards,

Jeran

As i already said this is not the Google tv one. Is the Chromecast 3 1080p the grey rounded one.

As i said this was working fine on this model at 2019. Not working rn

Tried on few brand new units to be sure it's not a hardware fault, same issue.

I'm 99% sure we are facing a firmware bug.

Hey there JavierOrtiz,

I'm really sorry about the slow response time on this thread. Would you be able to enroll in the Preview Program for your Chromecast devices? The Preview Program is early access to features and improvements on their device, and helps Google find and fix bugs before features are released to everyone. Afterwards, make sure to reboot the Chromecast devices to pick up an update.

Let me know if that fixes that guest mode issue! If not working or if not possible, go ahead and submit feedback via Google Home app with the keywords "CC Guest mode no pin" so we can raise this issue up to our engineering team.

Best regards,

Jeran

ok, I'm a bit bussy ATM but will try to do it ASAP. Thank you.

ok, done, i joined the preview program but chromecast still facing same issue. Anyway it's still waiting for next preview firmware release. So no changes on the firmware ATM. I'll report you back if a firmware update fixes the issue.

I did the report too. Just from another mail account like s******s@m********s.com

Awesome, thank you for doing that! I'm real sorry to hear that the issue is still occurring, rest assured that the engineering department is aware of this issue. To be transparent, I am not sure when the next firmware release will be, sadly.

In the meantime, did you have any more questions or concern that we need to address?

Best regards,

Jeran

ok, thank you for the great work guys, keep it up.

Hope will be fixed soon.

No more questions here.
