Hisense TV with built in Chromecast will not wake/turn on upon a cast command from Google Home

First of all the labels may not match perfectly as there was no selection for Chromecast built in using an Android TV.

I have a new Hisense 75U6G Android TV with built in Chromecast.  I am using an ethernet connection to my router/cable modem.  I am not using Wifi with the TV only a LAN connection.  I have a Google Lenovo display.

If the TV is already powered on then so far all built in Chromecast features seem to work as expected.

However if the TV is turned/powered off and I ask the Lenovo display to play music or videos on the Android TV then the TV does not wake up. The display reports "playing music on the Android TV" as if it thinks success yet TV is not on.  If I ask Google if the Android TV is on it reports "I cannot reach the Android TV right now..."

There is an option within the settings of the TV to enable "wake on cast" but it is greyed out.  I have no idea why this option is greyed.   There are options to Wake on LAN and Wake on Wireless and both of those are enabled but make no difference.

If I disconnect the ethernet and the TV reverts to a Wifi connection then the "wake on cast" is now available and enabled.

With Wifi and no ethernet connected, I am now successful in asking the TV to play music or videos since the TV now turns on properly from an off state.

In a perfect world should a built in Chromecast be able to wake the TV with an ethernet only connection and not Wifi?

Hey there Goody,

I apologize about the late response, thank you for being patient! I'd be happy to help out where I can! Now, in a perfect world, Chromecast Built-in should be able to wake up the TV with an Ethernet connection, as it does with the other types of Chromecast models. However, with Chromecast Built-in being an open source software, it widely varies from device to device since the TV developers can change anything they like it. It may be worth reaching out to Hisense support to see if there is any way to adjust the "wake up on Cast" settings you mentioned.

I'm real sorry I couldn't have been more useful, but if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Thank you Jeran.  I agree.  For now I have disconnected the ethernet and the wireless wake up seems to be functioning.  I do prefer ethernet when available especially since I already have it to the TV location.

This built in Chromecast acts nearly the same way as the dongle but in other ways it does not likely due to your point about open source.  I am still getting used to the nuances of built in.

Of course! I'm glad to hear you were able to find a workaround using wireless. Chromecast Built-in is pretty awkward to get used to since every company has slightly different nuances when it comes to the technology!

For now, I'll go ahead and lock up this thread. If you run into any more issues or have any more questions, feel free to start up a new thread.
