Hisense U6G can’t control with Nest

My Hisense u6G with built in chrome cast can’t be controlled with by Nest or assistants throughout the house. The TV has l been successfully added to the “house” and I can use the in-app remote in the Google Home iOS app. But if I were to ask Google Assistant in the same app to turn the TV off/on it would give me an error.

Hi, Tywat23.

Sorry for the issues you're seeing with Assistant commands. I imagine that's pretty frustrating. Can you tell me what the error says? Also, could you let me know what region (country) you are in? Also, is this a new issue, or has it never worked for you? I look forward to helping you work this out.

Thanks,

- Jeff

Appreciate the response.

  • The error says “I’m not sure what device you would like to control.”
  • This has been an issue since day 1 with the TV.
  • I’m located in the US

Thanks for the info, Tywat23.

One more clarification. Does your TV have a build in Google TV or are you using a Chromecast?

Thanks,

- Jeff

Hi, Tywat23.

I understand what you're looking to do now. What you need to do is set your TV as the preferred playback device. The instructions for doing that can be found here: https://bit.ly/39dR97U.

If you have any issues getting your playback set up on the TV after using the guide, please let me know.

Thanks,

- Jeff

Thats very helpful, thank you! only 1 question now.

when the TV is off it shows as offline and I’m unable to have google assistant turn the TV on… have to use the TV remote and then it’ll recognize it as online and can use the assistant to control it. Any fixes or workarounds?

Hey Tywat23,

Thanks for the photo. Give these steps a try:

  1. Make sure CEC is turned on (for some TVs, if certain settings are adjusted, it can turn off CEC automatically).
  2. Switch Chromecast to a different HDMI port.
  3. Unplug the TV, wait ten minutes, and plug it back in.
  4. Try a different voice command.
  5. If TV was turned on or off repeatedly during a short period of time, the voice commands may briefly stop working. Wait about ten minutes then, try again.

Best,

Alex
