How do I disable wifi transmitting from chromecast device?

I have generation 2 and 3 chromecast devices. I have no wifi in my house. All my chromecasts are working properly using ethernet cables. Even though there is no wifi in my house, these devices are still transmitting a wifi signal. How do I prevent them from transmitting wifi?

Hi Iou2,

What you are seeing is the devices going into a setup mode. This only happens when no internet connection is detected.

Thanks for responding Cathal. Just to clarify. I have 5 tvs. I'm watching youtube, using chromecast on all of them. So they all have internet through the ethernet cable that I control through my cellphone that is also using an ethernet cable because there is no wifi. It all works. Only problem is, even though they all have an internet connection, and they are all set up and working, they all still put out a constant wifi signal. And when I say wifi signal, I mean as measured with emf meter, not a wifi connection signal that I can connect to for setup. It's defiantly a wifi frequency, and very strong. I appreciate any insight you may have into allowing me to turn it off. My last resort will be to try a cellphone faraday pouch.

Hi again,

This is a community forum mainly supported by other users and community specialists so I would recommend speaking directly with a Google representative about this.

I spoke with them. Thank you for their link. Apparently there is no current solution. I have asked the Home development team to add a feature to allow the ability to turn off all wifi communication from a chromecast device if it has internet access already using an ethernet cable.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help, Cathal_S.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop, lou2. I just want to add info. The Chromecast devices must always be connected to the WiFi. Ethernet is only used to boost or improve the connection of the Chromecast. While the feature you are looking for isn't supported, you can also submit your feedback about your Chromecast via the Google Home app. Here's how.

Let us know if there's anything else.

Thanks,

Jennifer

I don't believe that is correct. I can and have set up my chromecast without being on a wifi network. I just set up the chromecast using an ethernet cable, never connecting to a wifi. I am currently using the chromecasts without any wifi in my house at all. I wrapped the chromecasts up in aluminum foil and now, using a RF meter, I can no longer detect a signal transmitting from the chromecast unless I'm right up on it. Perfect. 😉

Using a cellphone faraday pouch worked great. No need to disable them now
