Hello all,

I have a TV in my kitchen with a Chromecast attached to it, and I got annoyed using the remote or my phone to start the streaming service I wanted - taking too much time, phone screen getting dirty while cooking etc. So I decided to buy a (driverless, HID USB) IR Touch Frame from AliExpress. Got it yesterday and as a quick test I connected it to my Android phone, and it works fine. So next step, get my TV off the wall and connect the frame to the Chromecast. Unfortunately no response from the touch frame.
Using ADB I discovered that the USB device is connected and recognised, so that isn't the problem. Searching the web I discovered that a kernel module is missing, hid-multitouch.ko and it seems I need that for touch support. However, before Android 8 it was quite easy to load a kernel module, but this isn't the case anymore. What can I do to get the touchscreen working?

Best regards,

Erik

Hey there Erik,

The Chromecast with Google TV doesn't have an innate way to change or add different kernels. However, if you would like, I can pass this up as a feature request so that the Chromecast team is aware that this is something that is desirable. I would encourage you to submit some feedback as well!

I'm sorry if this wasn't the answer you were looking for, but if you had any more questions or concerns, please let me know, I'm always happy to help!

Thank you,

I would certainly appreciate this feature.  Specifically, this would allow a special needs girl the ability to control her own tv (she is a master of touchscreen... not a remote control).

Hey there wsgillingham,

I can see why this feature would be very helpful for some folks! I'd highly encourage you to submit feedback via Google TV to let Google know that this feature would be very appreciated. While the team won't directly respond back, they take all feedback seriously!

Best regards,

Jeran
