How to make chromecast forget old wifi network

I tried factory resetting but the chromecast is still trying to connect to my old network. 

I hold the button down but it does not start blinking or turn white. All that happens is it restarts and then shows the connection error.

You need to hold the button longer, the only way to connect to a new network once the main one is gone is by factory resetting the device, and it can be finicky for sure!
