I can't turn off YouTube's "auto-play" on the new Chromecast with Google TV

I've replaced my old Gen 1 Chromecast with the new Chromecast with Google TV.

Generally, the quality is superior, and the controls are highly responsive.

But, there's a problem with casting a YouTube video from my Android phone.

After a video ends, it automatically starts playing another one. Although it gives me a few seconds to press Stop on my phone, it often takes longer than that to pick up my phone, unlock it, and re-open the YouTube app. So, I don't want autoplay.

I have done the following to try to turn it off.

  1. On my Android phone's YouTube app > Settings > Autoplay > Autoplay next video > turned off
  2. On Google TV > YouTube > Settings > Autoplay > Off
  3. EDIT: I restarted both the Chromecast and my phone.

I don't know what else to do to stop the YouTube autoplay.

How can I fix this, please?

Thank you

I apologize for not reading your request very clear the first time. You are having trouble with casting from phones YouTube application.

Here we go...

First, launch the YouTube application while connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast. Second, tap the Chromecast icon in the app’s navigation bar.

Once you make your selection, you’ll see a little note at the bottom of the screen indicating that you’re connected to the Chromecast, but that there are no videos in the queue.

Make note of that location on the screen. Tap any YouTube video on the main screen and then select “Queue” to add it to your queue of casted YouTube videos. You must queue a video for this to work, but you only have to queue one.

At the bottom of the screen you’ll see another pop-up notification that the video has been added to your queue. Tap on it.

Here, located in a spot you wouldn’t even notice unless you were actively queuing items, is the autoplay toggle for the Chromecast stream. Toggle “Autoplay” to off.

Restart both.

Thanks, but I already did that. I should have mentioned it in my post.

Force stop YouTube both on the phone and the Chromecast, then restart the apps.

Sorry, I don't know how to force-stop an app on the Chromecast. Please let me know how.

Here's what I did:

  1. Force-stop the YouTube app on Android.
  2. Clear the YouTube app's cache.
  3. Restart the Android phone.
  4. Power down the Chromecast.
  5. Unplug the Chromecast for about three minutes.
  6. Restart the Chromecast.

Unfortunately, this hasn't helped.

Yes! That did it. The toggle is indeed hard to spot if you're not looking for it.

Thank you!
