I set up my Chromecast at a holiday home for a week, can't get it back on home wifi afterwards.

After coming back from holiday, I cannot get the Chromecast to connect to my home wifi having previously set it to the wifi in the holiday cottage we stayed at.

My phone doesn't recognize the Chromecast as part of my home setup anymore, and so I have to set it up 'as new'. Everything's OK until I ask it to connect to my home wifi, then my phone says it cannot connect to the Chromecast all of a sudden.
Because of this, I cannot factory reset it either.
Done the resetting everything route also. Am now stumped! ☹️

Use the hardware reset button on your Chromecast to force a reset, then do the setup steps again:

As you've discovered, your Chromecast is not like your phone.  It only knows ONE network at a time and doesn't remember past networks.  If you are going to move back and forth, you might want to consider getting a second Chromecast for your second location.
