I want to use chromecast with a laptop, not a phone or ipad, etc... How?

All instructions to set up chromecast are for a phone or ipad, etc... I want to use only a laptop.  The instructions keep referring to the Google home app but what do i use with a laptop?  Aren't apps for phones/ipads?  (I don't know what generation this chromecast is - the box just says 2000+)

Apparently, Google decided to stop the support for setting up Chromecast on the computer, so you have to use a mobile device (phone or tablet) to setup your Chromecast device.

I would suggest a Mecool KM6 deluxe or Nvidia Shield.

However, these products are more expensive than a good and effective HDMI cable.

Alternatively, you can upgrade your TV to a Chromecast built-in model.

If your TV supports ultra HD resolution (4K), you can connect your computer HDMI output port directly to the TV HDMI input port and enjoy higher picture quality with stable cable signal flow.

Note that Chromecast 1st generation support resolution of up to 1080p (full HD).

If you still want to use your Chromecast device, ensure that you have Google Chrome browser installed on your computer.

Power your Chromecast device with its original power supply and connect it to the TV HDMI input port.

Connect your computer to your WiFi network on 2.4 GHz bandwidth.

Open Google Chrome browser and enter the following address in the search bar: https://www.google.com/chromecast/setup/

At the bottom of the screen, choose "setup Chromecast using this computer" and follow instructions.

We were previously connecting a HDMI cable from the computer to the tv that we had run when our home was built a couple of years ago.  The cable is somehow now damaged and we cannot pull a new HDMI wire unfortunately.  To avoid stringing a cable across the room we were told google chromecast might be a good, wireless solution

The link you shared does not show me a "setup chromecast using this computer" option (that is the link I had been trying to navigate previously but couldn't see an option for laptop setup).    The following is all that shows up (this is the text - I can't share the actual images):  "Set up your new device

Use the Google Home app to set up your new device. Click one of the buttons below to download or update the Google Home app on your mobile phone or tablet."  Any ideas?  Thank you for your help!

Is there another product that will work as a wireless solution from laptop to TV?
