In Google Home, which Cromecast should I delete?

stanhilliard

I replaced my bedroom Chromecast with a Chromecast With TV. Now the menus in Google Home show two chromecastes -- even though the old one was removed.

One of the Chromecasts shown in Home, the original one (I think) is named Bedroom2 8878. Google Home shows it connected to the same network as my phone.

The other Chromecast, named Main Bedroom TV in Google Home does not show any network connection at all. But this is the device that the Xfinity App indicates it sees & uses to cast Xfinity programs to my TV.

Q Which device is correct. Which should delete from Home?

Hi stanhilliard,

Thanks for reaching out. Let's sort this out.

To confirm, can you still see the old Chromecast in the home that you're trying to link or set up your second Chromecast device? Is the old Chromecast still plugged into the TV? Have you tried resetting the old Chromecast device?

I'll look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Jennifer

I was delayed by trouble with my xfinity service. They fixed it. I will get back to you after I verify my previous experience.

Right now I can't remember how I got to the Information I described in my first post.

Here is my current setup. The home app has changed and now shows the removed chromecast named "Bedroom2 8878" as off line and not connected. The new Chromecast named "Main Bedroom TV" is shown and can be turned on and off.

Another page "Home" shows an earlier obsolete Cromecast device "in your home".  And under "local devices" shows "Living room TV" and "Main Bedroom TV". I Only want current devices to show, which would be "Main Bedroom TV" and "Living room TV". The "Living room TV" is a Sony with Android that might have a Chromecast built in. I haven't tried yet to access it with the Google TV remote or current cell phone..

Hello there,

Thanks for getting back to us. Could you try to assign the Living Room TV and Main Bedroom TV to a room in the Google Home app? Also, could you please share a screenshot from your Google Home app showing these devices so we can have a better view of your issue?

Thanks,

Jennifer

I can't get to the Google home app or to take a screen shot right now. My phone, a Google Pixel 6, has been taken over by something and I can't operate it. Any button/icon or screen method I touch, instead of executing, plays the name by audio (text to voice) that is on the button/icon/etc. I know this because a hearing aid app on the phone sends (by design) all audio to my hearing aids by bluetooth. That is: everything from phone calls to podcasts to voice of names of desktop icons I touch.

Whatever took over the phone prevents execution of my operational commands by only deflecting their names to audio. The only control I have found so far is to boot into safe mode, which turned off the bluetooth connection to my HA's.

If you have advice, or can recommend where I should get advice to recover my Pixel 6 please let me know.

Update:
My phone is fixed. I found out what the problem was by taking the phone to a Verizon store. They fixed it in about one minute.

The "takeover" of my phone was by TalkBack -- a component of the Android operating system. It is apparently for people with impaired sight. But if it is turned on inadvertently, you can't operate your phone -- unless you know what it is you have turned on and how it works. I think that is a design flaw of Android.

I will shortly post the screen shot of the Google Home app.
